“Many positives, one downer”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 December 2013

I stayed here with my son when he was attending a university open day. We didn't pay much for the night as it was a last minute booking and that made is very good value. I found the road system difficult but when we did reach the hotel the parking facility was excellent. Even though we only stayed one night we were able to leave our car in the free secure parking all of the next day which was very useful.
The receptionist was lovely when we arrived after a very very long drive and the staff at breakfast the next morning were also great. All local lasses which adds to the ambience of the place. Breakfast was fantastic, freshly cooked, lots of choice and piping hot.
The room was clean and the shower was hot and effective. My only downer was that the carpet was really musty smelling, the smell lingered on all our clothes. Overall though this was a great value place and easy to walk up to the city and the university.

It was our third stay at this hotel as we find the staff are very friendly and helpful. Our las test room may have been small but it had that was needed-- clean room clean and comfortable bed, clean towels and what is a must a coffee and tea supply. I personally love the breakfast as they have LOTS of fresh fruit plus the usual breakfast menu. Their free car is very handy-- just across the road, there is a bus stop and also a taxi rank just round the corner. Also lots of pubs restaurants near, it's handy for most entertainment in Newcastle.

We stayed there for one night 25/11/13 as I was going to the Bruno Mars concert ,I chose via late rooms due to its locality initially,it was less than 10 minute walk .
Right from the start the receptionist made us really welcome ,the hotel is quirky ,love the colour scheme and the modern twist it holds ,from the outside it looks quite ordinary.
Loved the fact it had a car park so close to hotel a real surprise ,we had room 22 overlooking the water and a clear view of the swing bridge ,comfy bed ,amazing bathroom couldn't fault a thing .
Breakfast was on 3rd floor which initially seemed a bit strange but it was really good ,home cooked ,hot and quick friendly service .
So impressed cant wait to return again to discover more of the surrounding area .

Room Tip: Room 22 was a lovely room thought it would be noisy on the front but sleep like a log never heard a...

We stayed here for one night on a Thursday and it was awful. From the second we walked into the foyer it smelled of sewage and we didn't shake this all night. The receptionist was friendly enough but the room was tiny and the view was a brick wall. The air con didn't work, despite making a promising noise, and the window wouldn't be opened for long as we were kept awake by the noise of traffic and revellers on the Quayside.
The duvet cover was ripped in several places and the carpet was threadbare in parts. The window ledge had dead flies on it and one bedside lamp was dented, ripped and damaged. The bathroom was grubby and the door frame was peeling and badly chipped.
Breakfast was nice enough but the staff could be heard loudly gossiping and slagging off a colleague all the way through.
We had to return an iron three times as they all began to let off smoke and we had to hold each outside the window before it set off the fire alarm. The ironing board was broken too, I had to use it on the floor.
In all, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone when compared with a similarly-priced Premier Inn or Travelodge. I guess it suits party-goers and those who just need to kip but we're used to more for that money. It needs a good lick of paint, new floors and some volume control training for staff.

We came to stay for a few nights as were going to a wedding. The staff were all really helpful especially Lindsay on the front desk. The hotel was clean and the location was great for our needs! Will stay here again if come back to Newcastle!

My hubby and I come up for the football and nights out a couple of times a year. We have stayed in the posh hotels to the basic travel lodge.
I felt like this hotel was more of a B and B but a good one at that. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Rooms were good enough for me, comfortable bed and good selection of TV channels whilst getting ready. The bar under the hotel is closed but there is one oppisite the hotel but I did not find it too noisy due to the secondary windows.
Breakfast was lovely with a good selection and I thoroughly enjoyed my full english and thought the sausages were gorgeous (very meaty). The breakfast room is open 0830 - 1030 on a weekend.
The lounge bar is nice and cosy and again very friendly.
Brilliant location with plenty around, if you have bad knees there is a steep climb up but there is a bus stop just round the corner from the hotel that will take you up (the staff at the hotel can provide a leaflet/timetable)
Checkout is at 12 noon so plenty of time to get ready and they allow your car to stay in their car park for the day even after check out.
Right next to quayside market on a Sunday which is worth a look.
Overall I enjoyed my stay and would definatly choose this hotel again, cheaper and more friendly then travel lodge etc, if you want a warm welcome, comfy bed and good breakfast then this is for you, but if you like the glitz of the modern hotels (and expense) I would book somewhere else.

Lovely clean and friendly hotel, lovely location on the quayside and only 10 mins walk into the centre of Newcastle. Great breakfast with many options and free parking just opposite the hotel an added bonus! All of the staff went out of their way to ensure you had a great and comfortable stay with advise on the local area made our stay more enjoyable.
