Stayed for 3 nights for work and was a home from home. Great room with sofa & TV and decent sized bed again with its own TV.
Restaurant was v bus which is always a good sign when you are surrounded by bars & restaurants on the shore.
Had a grumpy complaining pair next to me who were swiftly and politely dealt with by the manager and all parties left happy.
Decent eggs Benedict for breakfast with selection of newspapers and strong coffee.
Free parking across the road in car park.

Impressive looking hotel overlooking the Millennium Bridge and the river but as soon as you enter the foyer area you think you are wearing dark sunglasses! Deep purple with hint of silver gray coloured walls and lush purple furniture, poor lighting that I had difficulty to fill up the form so I ended in signing it blank! The staff is polite but inexperienced and gave no details about the various hotel facilities or the car parking arrangement. Our executive room was spacious again with poor lighting (No, I don’t have eye sight problems!) The complimentary tea tray was inside the small wardrobe which also accommodated the iron and press table. Again, the bar room was lacking lights and the service was slow with over priced drinks. We booked dinner table for six and we struggled to read the wine and a la card menu due to severe lack of lights that we ended in using the lit candle! Our waiter looked so miserable that I thought he might be sick and about to puke over us and as he was through the middle of taking our orders, he suddenly to our amazement, he walked out on us and we had to call the manager who took over the service without explaining what went wrong? Dinner was generally good but well overpriced. My advice is, if you decide to stay in this hotel then bring with you a torch, cross the road to the adjacent bar called pitch and piano and enjoy good reasonably priced drinks and great atmosphere and make sure that you book yourself dinner in one of the many near by excellent restaurants.

Room Tip: Room with river view but will cost you an extra £40!

Huge rooms, nicely fitted out, great hotel bar, perfect location, great place to stay. My only criticism is that the breakfast was a bit average.

Decided to try out this Mal as a wee change from the Hilton (as the location is a bit better). No pool but the room was very nice (executive room) and the bar area and restuarant was great with nice views. To be honest this is the best Mal i have been in yet and I will prob stay there next time I am visiting Newcastle.

WOW!
It's been about 25 years since I was last in Newcastle and after this weekend there is no way I'll leave it another 25 years!
I was lucky enough to win a weekend away with the Mrs and would thoroughly recommend this Mal.
Stunning hotel with a stunning location...right by the Tyne & Millennium Bridge. The staff were brilliant and could not be more helpful. We asked them for advise on what to see and do and followed their suggestions - we were not disappointed.
Lovely romantic room with a huge bed and stunning view.
Fantastic breakfast and a lovely bar..

When the budget allows we will be back!

Room Tip: Ask for a river view room if the budget allows. You won't be disappointed.

We stayed at Malmaison originally in Aug 2010 when we got engaged, so thought it was the perfect place to stay the night after our Wedding, I'd booked us into the same room we had, when we arrived after a 2hr car ride we checked in, we were given a drinks voucher, we checked into the room and Id given them the wrong number, they immediately changed our room. The meal in the restaurant was amazing, as always and we received a number of glasses of Champagne to celebrate our marriage!

Room Tip: top floor suites!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Fog on the Tyne? Let's hope not. Otherwise you'll miss the great view of the Tyne Bridge you get from our hotel in Newcastle city centre. But then, when you're staying at Malmaison Newcastle, it's the views on the inside that tell you your boat's come in. While you're right at the heart of Newcastle's great shops and exciting nightlife, the lure of MALBAR's legendary cocktails and the Mal Brasserie's classic dishes with a twist is pretty strong. And who wants to spend all night out on the town when one hotel in Newcastle has a whole floor with a shipbuilding theme and bathtubs you could sink a battleship in? It could only be the Newcastle Mal. ... more   less
