“Fab stay”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

Recently stayed at the malmasion in Newcastle couldn't have had a better stay we opted for the northern lights package which is well worth it the staff where more than helpful, as I mentioned on booking it was our anniversary we were greeted with rose petals on our bed a card from the staff which was a really nice touch. Our burger we had in the brasserie was the best ever also breakfast next day was fab.only pick I would have is room badly lit for getting ready for a night out us girls need good lighting but all in all will definitely be back for sure. Xx

Stayed here on business a few times and I am always happy to go back. Nice hotel, if a little dark in the reception. lovely helpful staff, excellent breakfast and good sized well proportioned rooms with all you need for a decent nights rest. Bathrooms are excellent, spotless and well stocked with product. I like this chain and I like Newcastle. Beautiful site overlooking the river on the quayside and close to shops and restaurants.

Location is amazing overlooking the Tyne. Reception staff are very good displaying excellent customer service and nothing is to much trouble. Bar staff were aloof with one lad actually using his hands to put ice into our drinks!!!! Night door man Alan is very friendly and chatty. Rooms are quite spacious and beds very comfortable however the mirrors are poorly situated and not one drawer in the room!! Lighting is poor but shower and toiletries are excellent. Overall a tad expensive but the view makes up for it.

Purple and black, so dark everywhere, all ceilings had small spotlights, the most important light was above our bed but the bulb was out so we couldn't read anything, telephone and wall lights covered in dust. The walls in the bedroom seemed to be painted battleship grey. The bathroom was a poor design. The shower screen didn't move, anyone with a disability like myself would have trouble leaning into the bath to turn the taps on. The hand basin is at least two foot from the wall mirror which caused problems for shaving, possibly why a small hand mirror was provided. The ceiling light was behind me causing shadows for shaving and washing. The lift announcer was in French?
Other than that the staff were very friendly and the hotel has a great view. Overall the hotel needs brightening up unless you are a Goth or a vampire.

Room Tip: Take a torch with you.

This hotel is in a wonderful position overlooking the Milennium bridge on the Quayside and opposite the Sage Gateshead conference centre. Parking available just behind the hotel.
The hotel room was a good size, overlooking the bridge and river.
The decor in public areas was black and purple and the lighting was minimal so that the overall impression was gloom and doom. We actually thought they had had a power cut and were on standby lighting. It was halloween - perhaps they had done it for that? but no it was permanent!
We had to have all the lights in the room switched on so that we could see to read in bed and the one light in the bathroom was in a high ceiling behind your head so that you couldn't see to shave/make up.
The most pretentious thing was the mechanised voice in the lift which told you the doors were opening/closing and which floor you were on BUT IN FRENCH. Tough if you don't understand French and have visual impairment.

Room Tip: Front facing rooms have a great view of the bridges and Quayside

The room was a little dirty in general, there was also used cotton buds in the bin.. the sink was coming away from the wall too. Apart from this the hotel was fine, great car parking behind the hotel for a very reasonable £4 , we thought it would be about £20.

Service from the girls on reception was excellent, really willing to help out and go the extra mile.Bar area also very nice, with nice drinks.

Overall the hotel was a little expensive.

Stayed overnight in a double superior room was amazed that they accommodated children was under the impression it was adults only. Hotel is great clean and well kept. room was huge with nice bathroom. Stayed for dinner and we all enjoyed the food which was a high standard , which can also be said for the breakfast. The city has lots to do and so will return to stay here.

Fog on the Tyne? Let's hope not. Otherwise you'll miss the great view of the Tyne Bridge you get from our hotel in Newcastle city centre. But then, when you're staying at Malmaison Newcastle, it's the views on the inside that tell you your boat's come in. While you're right at the heart of Newcastle's great shops and exciting nightlife, the lure of MALBAR's legendary cocktails and the Mal Brasserie's classic dishes with a twist is pretty strong. And who wants to spend all night out on the town when one hotel in Newcastle has a whole floor with a shipbuilding theme and bathtubs you could sink a battleship in? It could only be the Newcastle Mal. ... more   less
