We didn't stay at the hotel but wanted to write a review of the Starbucks Coffee which was attached to the hotel.
We just wanted a snack breakfast each morning and found this and a friendly welcome at Starbucks. Lovely toasted tea cakes and toasted sandwiches and of course great coffee.
Oh and you got to use the hotels great free Wi-Fi

Have stayed here twice. Once with the husband in a suite and once on the girls spa package. When staying with husband we got the chance to get upgraded to a suite for minimal price. Well worth it. Suite fantastic. Huge bed and bath with loads of freebies. Starbucks on site. Only downfall is the parking. Across road from hotel and have to pay. Wine and crisps in room very expensive but such a lovely stay with beautiful location. Spa package was great and very relaxing. Meal in restaurant very nice. Drinks pricey but worth it. Lovely atmosphere. Hotel seems dark but sets the mood. Had major problem with bill as paid in cash but hotel charged card at later date and took few phone calls to manager to get sorted. Very nice though and would stay again

Entering this hotel from the bright and airy quayside was like walking into a dimly lit fortune tellers tent.
Yes the rooms are spacious and well equipped, however they still lack any brightness and leave you feeling somewhat down. The purple painted walls in the corridors are an eye saw and belong in a funeral parlour. The price of mini bar drinks and room snacks is a bit of a joke and room service menu is very limited. Although the location is great, the deco and feel of the place means we will not be coming back.

A fabulous stay. Upgraded to a suite which I am pleased we did so. The lounge area was very comfortable and the bathroom very unique with the freestanding bath. Fixtures and fittings were of a very high standard. Room service of rump steak, mac and cheese, fries and béarnaise sauce were delicious. A very romantic ambiance with the heavy, dark purple colour scheme so if you like bright this hotel is not for you.
All in all a wonderful stay.

I have stayed in many hotel ranging from 5 star to 3 star. I was looking forward to my stay. My boyfriend and I were suprised at how dark th corridors were. I usually like bright and fresh hotels so it wasn't too much to my taste. Although my partner liked the decor. When we entered the room we were quite amazed by the size as we had only booked a standard double, It was a very large corned room with 2 smart tvs ( with no instructions on how to use them i might add... ), one in front of the hard double bed and the other in front of the sofa at the other side of the room. The bathroom was complete with a heated towel rail, large bath and wonderful shower. The was a lovely selection of hot drinks to make but with very little milk. We had mentioned that it was our anniversary and found a card reading ''Happy birthday! We hope you enjoy your stay at mal'' with 2 free cocktail vouchers! We laughed at the mistake and were very pleased with the vouchers. We asked for a quiet room and it was. As well as a lovely view of the Tyne and the Baltic. When we came back to the hotel after dinner i rang reception and asked for cocktails to be brought to out room along with some fresh milk. After cocktails i sat and made cups of tea and when i poured the milk it began to curdle... The milk was sour. We were disgusted. I instantly rang and complained and they went and bought a small bottle of FRESH MILK. While i slept well my partner woke up a few times because of how hard the bed was. The hotel was average at best making simple mistakes that are simply annoying and could even make you ill.

Room Tip: Corned rooms are very large!

We have just returned from a 1 night stay. all the staff we met from housekeeping to bar staff where all very friendly and polite the room was a good size. we found the hotel not to be very clean in the bar area and our room there was a lot of dust everywhere the curtains was badly stained the Windows looked as if not seen a cloth in a while. the beds are very uncomfy my neck still hurts today.

I would stay here again as the atmosphere felt relaxing and intimate the staff were all very welcoming but think the cleanliness could be improved

Fog on the Tyne? Let's hope not. Otherwise you'll miss the great view of the Tyne Bridge you get from our hotel in Newcastle city centre. But then, when you're staying at Malmaison Newcastle, it's the views on the inside that tell you your boat's come in. While you're right at the heart of Newcastle's great shops and exciting nightlife, the lure of MALBAR's legendary cocktails and the Mal Brasserie's classic dishes with a twist is pretty strong. And who wants to spend all night out on the town when one hotel in Newcastle has a whole floor with a shipbuilding theme and bathtubs you could sink a battleship in? It could only be the Newcastle Mal. ... more   less
