The work that is being done 're-furbishing' the park is taking away it's essence of nature. Gavel paths and play areas everywhere are compromising the natural vegetation. Cleared shrubbery is bare and much of the habitat ground loving birds is being removed . Bare areas, if not planted properly, will grow weeds. Much of the wild side of this park is being replaced by man made constructions. Once the pile of gravel and other building debris is removed it will take a long time to recover. Let's hope the robins, blackbirds and dunnocks will stay around. Not as relaxing as it used to be.

Pleasant enough park slightly North of Newcastle's city centre, within 10 minutes walk of it though. The park has some pleasant walkways and bandstands etc, as well as a busy skatepark, but I feel it is becoming a little run-down and could do with some refurbishment in places. OK for a stroll in the afternoon but there are better parks in Newcastle city centre.

This large park is just north of the University and the Great North Museum - about 5-10 minute walk from Haymarket metro station. There is a good playground for young children and a very popular skate park for teenagers. The Military Vehicle Museum is currently closed and the building needs renovation. There is a boating lake. The crazy golf and cafe are open in the summer months.
