The Castle is small, not busy had all which made my visit much more enjoyable. With no furnishings around castle, it was easy to imagine just how things may have looked back in the day. Climbing to the very top gives some great views of Newcastle and the bridges.

The fee entrance is £4 for adults which I found a bit expensive.
The whole castle is 3 floors and all accessible only by stairs so if you can't stand climbing up 5 stairs then I wouldn't recommend this for you.
Going on the roof to see the view from all 4 different ankles of Newcastle was the best part of it!
There isn't anything inside to see besides the 2 big rooms !

The Castle and Castle Keep are not large attractions but the artifacts from the times of the romans and the history of the Castle from 1080 was quite impressive. I thought it was well worth the 4 pounds to get in.

It's a worthwhile visit, with an excellent views of Newcastle and the wider area from the top! Lots of stairs, so don't go if you'll find those difficult. There's a small museum and then about 3 levels to climb up. I particularly liked it as it is not too adorned with "fake furniture" to distract you etc. Just a little written information about each room. The kids loved the fact there were lots of side rooms to divert off into and lots of stairs to run up!! Historically, it's been refurbished well. I'd recommend and set aside about 45 minutes? £4 for adults, but great kids can go free.

£4 very well spent.A proper castle,no dressed up guides or mocked up rooms made to look like royal bed chambers etc? There are some displays explaining the history of the castle but you can just walk around and imagine how life was like for the inhabitants. This building is not for the faint hearted.Winding staircases with deep stairs and some uneven surfaces. If you have mobility issues this is not for you.At the very top of the keep you will be rewarded with spectacular views all over the city, taking in the river, bridges and the newer buildings going out as far as St James ParK.If you do not have much time to see Newcastle I would put this near the top of the list if you enjoy unadulterated history.
