Owner description: At the Tyneside Cinema, we give a trip to the pictures the sense of occasion it deserves. We show the best films in stylish and beautiful surroundings, and our varied programme ranges from brilliant films from all over the world to the best Hollywood has to offer. As the last surviving Newsreel theatre still operating as a cinema full-time in the UK, our Grade II-listed building is an important, must-see piece of heritage, not just regionally, but nationally too and it has been lovingly restored to preserve and celebrate the grandeur of its original 1937 art deco design.

The Tyneside cinema is an Art Deco gem. There a tiny café bar for drinks before or after the performance and the auditorium has lovely comfy seats. We spent a very enjoyable rainy Saturday afternoon enjoying the delights of the Tyneside. There is an ongoing building programme and patrons are invited to contribute 20 pence when they buy their movie ticket. 20 pence well spent, in my view.

If you're looking for a place with character to eat out during the day, this is the place for you. The meals are always well cooked and piping hot and there is enough on the menu to satisfy most people

Why do we not have a cinema like this in London? Amazing place, authentic, true to the art, lots of proper cinema lovers without the atmosphere feeling pretentious. My boyfriend is touring a silent film to which he plays live music and the elderly spectators who remember the days of silent film were just having a ball. Staff were extremely friendly. They also have a classical screen, which has old chairs and stalls and circle seats. The cafe and bar are both great. Amazing.

Great ground floor cafe being renovated just now. Lovely top floor restaurant and comfortable seats in the cinemas with friendly, helpful box office staff.
