“Business stay”
Reviewed 2 February 2013

Just had the one night in this hotel on a business trip, my room was spotless with very clean bedding and well appointed things for the stay, fridge, microwave oven, tv,tea coffee etc
The shower is a wet area and the water does splash off the wall onto the toilet and bathroom floor but that is only a little moan.
Breakfast was super, with an excellent choice and proper sausage!
Sharks bar at night has very friendly attractive staff waiting on and has a great atmosphere.
Staff are friendly and welcoming, ideal for the football fan directly across the road for the Magpies home ground.
Parking is a little bit of a problem, get a pass from reception for the Metro Car Park across the road.
Would I stay again on or not on business - YES.

Stayed at the Sandman for one night on a business trip to Newcastle. The rooms are snug, clean and cosy. My room was a tiny bit noisy facing onto a busy road junction. Situated opposite St James Park which is very impressive.

Reception and greeting was excellent. The guy who checked me in was very thorough and showed great attention.

Sports bar was hopping in the evening as there was a lot of league football on. Great atmosphere

Really good location being just five minutes walk from the centre of town and from the Monument metro stop.

Breakfast was average. The only slight downside. Pancakes were awful. Scrambled eggs were drowning in butter.

Thumbs up for the hotel

Room Tip: ask for a room not facing on to the road

Stayed here for 1 night on a work trip as I had a conference to attend at St James Park, a perfect location for this. It was 2 minutes across the road also very convenient for getting to the center of town for shops an restaurants and a minute from the Chinese district of Newcastle.

The hotel itself is very nice, warm welcome, quick check in and complimentary tea, coffee and hot chocolate at the reception available 24/7.

Room was small but very nice. TV on wall, good quality towels and a microwave was a good addition to standard hotel equipment. Good quality steam iron and ironing board and a lovely wet room style bathroom.

The thing that lets the hotel down is the bar/restaurant facilities. It seems it is franchised out to a company called shark club that essentially run it like a hooters or something. In the room is a write up framed about the “Award Winning Shark club” which is clearly a paid for ad in the local paper. It felt like having a drink in a strip club and was glad I had not come here with my family. friends or organised a meeting there. The bar was packed full of groups of men watching football and enjoying the nights special, 20p chicken wings! They were all leering at the bar staff and it was cringe worthy. I finished my drink and opted to order some room service.

Breakfast was also served in the shark club in the morning (different staff, appropriately dressed) and the breakfast was not the best but adequate to start the day. But being sat in the bar for breakfast does feel a bit odd as it has a night club style feel to it.

On the whole the hotel is fantastic and a great price for the quality I would just not go to the bar for drinks or dinner unless of course you enjoy that sort of thing.

On arrival the glass enclosed fire, visible from outside, misrepresents the feeling of a plush hotel.

On entry, there is simply a reception desk with no other public spaces, excepting a large Sports Bar which is also used for breakfast (expensive but freshly cooked and very appetising, not withstanding the pub environment and eating off a sticky beer table at 7AM).

The central location is great, opposite the football stadium  Free coffee at the reception desk was a nice touch and all staff where extremely friendly and impeccably well trained.

The corridors and rooms where clean, fresh and ultra modern. The rooms where apartment style with small fully equipped kitchen (small TV, microwave, tiny hot plate, full size fridge, breakfast bar, stools and cutlery, plates & pans). Coffee making facilities where provided.

The room had a second TV, small wardrobe, ironing facilities, safe and sofa. Gowns and slippers where provided in my upgraded room.

The bathroom was modern with walk in power shower and lots of fresh towels and toiletries.

The air conditioning was surprisingly a cheap and noisy through the wall unit, but other than that the room was to a high quality with lots of glazing and good lighting.

A great plus was 24 hour room service if you didn't fancy using the kitchen.

In summary, if you are looking for a nightly let fully equipped central apartment it's a winner, but if you want full hotel facilities stay away. I like the former and will definitely return.

We stayed at this hotel to go see the strictly tour. The show was very good & the hotel was excellent. The staff were more than helpful. The room lovely, & the bar meal was amazing for the money. There as plenty choice at breakfast too. The stay was a treat to us from our family & we will stay there again if we ever go to Newcastle again.

Room Tip: The room on the 7th floor had a mini kitchen, two TV's, large comfortable bed.

Me and my husband stayed here just after our wedding to see the olympic football at St James park. They found out we were newlyweds and decided to upgrade us to a better room which was lovely. The facilities were good and room very clean. I would recommend this to anyone!

The Sandman Signature is a well located hotel across the road from St James' Park. The rooms are modern and clean however heating can be noisy and the lower floors suffer from loud traffic noise from the main road below.
The rooms are well presented with a modern bathroom. I felt the room rate was expensive given others within the city but overall an enjoyable stay. Breakfast buffet was good and served in the connected Shark Bar which offers American style food with good offers available most nights.
