Went her on Valentine's night (which could have been a nightmare) but the restaurant wasn't overly busy. We were made very welcome on arrival. We weren't rushed to order, but once we did, the drinks and food arrived very quickly. The food was lovely and we weren't hassled to buy more drinks/have desserts/coffee etc. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a family night out in a relaxed atmosphere where you can stay as long as you wish.

We went on a Monday night and i was worried it would be empty and lacking in atmosphere but was wrong. The service and food were excellent. We had a Groupon voucher so it was exceptional value but left a good tip as service was first class and we had got such a good deal.

Apparently this place opened in 1981 and has been in the same family ownership since then. You wouldn't guess it from the decor which is thoroughly modern with very clever lighting. I had crisp tasty onion bhajii followed by an EXCELLENT chicken tikka dhansak: not an easy dish to get right and this was top notch. Great service; friendly polite and efficient. Only small criticism is that I wasn't blown away with the naans: perfectly OK but not outstanding as everything else was. The Quayside used to be THE in place to go but has lost its fashionability. While this makes it a more pleasant place to visit it does mean restaurants now have to try much harder. The Simla has risen to that challenge and I will certainly be returning. And as an added bonus it's right next door to the fabulous Crown Posada pub, a real ale lover's dream.
There are a couple of upmarket Indian restaurants nearby: Vujon and Rasa, both good, but both expensive. Simla is priced like your average high street curry house with that type of standard menu. However, it's a cut above the average in quality and as an added bonus stays open pretty late. I recommend it.
