“Nice Modern Hotel”
Reviewed 21 May 2012

Stayed here for 1 night while attending the premiership darts. We had originally booked 3 rooms but a couple pulled out. We couldn’t get our money back for that room after emailing with no reply and phoning with promises to call back but they never did. On checking in we decided to check in to the extra room since we paid for it anyway. There was some confusion here though, they had wrong names, addresses n phone numbers. Would suggest they improve on their administration.

Hotel is a 5 minute walk from central station which was a bonus.

Room itself was nice, modern and clean. I seen on some previous reviews about the shower doors being see through. They are. Luckily I was with my partner but not sure if the twin rooms maybe have different doors.

We went to a nearby restaurant called Pinocchio's and it was one of the best italian meals i have ever had.

Breakfast was really good and would defo recommend it.

Would stay here again.

Had a fantastic stay in this hotel. It's pretty much brand new so everything was clean and modern.

The room was small - but it didn't feel like there wasn't enough room. Cosy bed, compact bathroom with a really powerful shower. Drainage wasn't the best and a couple of times I thought the water was going to run right out into the bedroom!

The location for this hotel couldn't be better - bang in the centre of the city and 3 mins walk away from the train station. I'd definitely stay here again.

Me and my husband stayed at Sleeperz last weekend for our anniversary - what a fabulous weekend we had. All the staff welcomed us with open arms, the service we received was outstanding. The lovely receptionist and her Manager (I didn't catch their names unfortunately) helped make our stay so special, they remebered our name, remebered the following morning it was our anniversary and even asked how our meal was.
The room wasn't ready when we arrived but we sat and had a coffee whilst we waited. It was slightly disheartening to see a coach full of men pulling up and being able to get checked straight in, but in honesty we did only wait 15 minutes and we enjoyed the people watching.

At first when the coach full of men pulled up our first thoughts were 'Oh Dear' but this quickly changed. A Manager was present and escorted the group away from Reception and made sure they kept the noise down so they weren't actually any bother to us.

The rooms were lovely - no clutter, just items which we felt were 'needed', lovely minimalist style. The bathroom worried us at first with it being a wet room, but actually the floor is underfloor heated so the water evaporated quickly. ALso the mirrors are heated so they don't steam up - amazing idea!

We already had dinner plans so unfortuantely didn't dine in the restaurant we just had a drink in the bar, but the menu looked delightful (simple but delightful). Whilst we were having a drink a large group of Scottish men filled the bar. At first they were extremely loud so it was quite uncomfortable but I have to say the staff controlled the situation wonderfully. A Manager approached the group (which didn't go down too well, she did receive a certain amount of abuse lets say) but the situation was controlled very well. A male manager then appeared, and the group quickly disappeared. We found it quite amusing actually - it was like watching a bunch of naughty children.
Naturally we were concerned about about the noise the group could cause during the night but it was incredibly reassuring to see a member of staff manning the corridors throughout the early hours. At this point we have to say Ronald was delightful - he welcomed us back straight away and really looked after us, we couldn't find our key at all and he got us a replacement with no bother at all.
Breakfast was delicious, we were welcomed by a bright cheery girl and could help ourselves to as much as we liked. Whilst at breakfast we noticed a couple of large groups - to be honest we would never have known the other groups were even there as we didn't hear a peep from them.
We will definitely be returning to Sleeperz and will definitely recommend it to all our friends. Me and my husband would say ignore the couple of negative comments below (from what we witnessed, the group didn't like it because they couldn't get away with unruly behaviour).

Room Tip: HIgh floor facing the street - it gives a beautful view of the cathedral lit up at night.

I read reviews on other websites giving the hotel 97% so my expectations we high.

It was OK but not great, the rooms are small and the bathrooms are essentially a wet room with a shower discharging water over the floor.

If you have ever wanted to spend the night in Ikea and then this is the place for you. Its quite a souless place and is not what I call a boutique hotel. The room was tiny and like living in a pod which also felt damp.

The staff were great but if your looking for somewhere special then this is not the place for you.

Would I stay there again? No you can get better value for money elsewhere.

I wouldnt recomend this hotel if you are going for a stag or hen party. we were treated really badly from the moment we walked in. I think the hotel failed to realised that we were customers too. In fairness it was mainly the manageress who didnt seem to want our custom. rooms are nice but the bathrooms are poorly designed.

I have never stayed in a hotel with such small rooms. They are quite cute. Small and compact but extremely functional. I had a 5th floor room with views over the rail tracks. You do hear the trains, and I was awake by 0530. Try and get odd numbered rooms, so you are on the street side and not railway side.

The room has a hanging space, many shelves, a plasma tv, working desk with a stool (no chair), and small bathroom. The shower has good power. The bed had 2 pillows ( needs 4 at least) and the mattress was springy (could feel the springs). Duvet was warm, and air con worked well.

I just lived the lay out of the room.

Room Tip: Odd numbered rooms may be less noisy

New hotel, very clean and super modern with friendly staff. Although rooms are very nice they are very small with annoying design flaws. For instance the allocated place to put your suitcase has a glass shelf with towels on right above it, which I banged my head on twice. Im sure theres more than me thats done this. This resulted in a bump on my head which my boyfriend found funny all weekend! Also the bathroom is like a wet room but as its tiny the water doesnt drain away much so if you have a shower expect to walk through a puddle everytime you go the toliet all night! Rooms are tiny which is ok but its nice to have some space.
However staff friendly and will guide you to carparking etc, free maps of Newcastle available which is very helpful and location very central within walking distance of train station and bars such as Revolution, Tup Tup Palace and Flairs!
