“Perfect city hotel”
Reviewed 23 September 2012 via mobile

Just spent a weekend at the Indigo and I have been very impressed with their attentive service. Unlike in many other city hotels, i felt very welcomed and looked after, all the staff went the extra mile in being super friendly and helpful.
The room was modern and nicely decorated and offered a free minibar with soft drinks, crisps and chocolate which was a nice touch. It was clean, had comfy beds and was totally quiet, despite being on the 1st floor opposit the lift and overlooking the road! Food in the restaurant was great!
Great hotel, good value for money, excellent service! Will use again!

What a hidden gem so centrally located. So quiet yet on the doorstep of everything. Took literally five minutes to walk from Central train station & that was going the less direct route!! Situated in a quiet side street beside the Assembly Rooms, you have all that Newcastle has to offer around you.

The restaurant becomes a Marco Piere White establishment for lunch & dinner which sadly i never got to experience. I did have the pleasure to take breakfast though & had they dish up probably the best sausages i have had in ages & proper flat mushrooms rather than the more usual button ones. The charming staff constantly top up your orange juice. On the (only slightly) down side, the queues do build at the self-service coffee & toast point at busy times. This is a tad of a poor side to an otherwise flawlwss service. The bar is not cheap but the stylish furniture, atmosphere & service made it all worthwhile

My spotless room was spacious with a decent size wet room inc robes. Beds very comfortable & outside noise miminal. Mini-bar had complimentary light snacks & soft drinks. If i had to find a fault then i would say that often the most modern trendy facilities are not always the most practical. By that i mean toilet roll seems at an odd angle behind you for use & against the wet room glass. Mirror also a bit high if you're not on the tall side. Also why use swanky names to describe what is basically shower gell?

I would definatley stay again when in town.

This was the first time I enjoyed my accommodation in Newcastle. I have travelled there for work several times, and I have stayed in hotels and B&B's which have ranged from very bad to average to 'OK good'. Indigo is a very good boutique hotel, that wins hands down when compared to some of the other big chain holels I have used in this city. The hotel is located centrally, near the train station, restaurants, and other amenities. The price is reasonable for the quality of accommodation (I paid £99 per night). The hotel also features a Marco Pierre White restaurant which I didn't try - but the atmosphere was warm, lively and sophisticated when I arrived to check in at 11:30pm on a rainy night. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful (and alarmed, as I slipped on my way to the reception! luckily more a comedy moment than an accident) The room is of a good size, modern and stylish. The bed was extremely comfortable (I could do with a bed like that at home, in fact). It was well made with crisp clean sheets, and very welcoming. There was a stylish black and green armchair and a stool, which were a little cramped (the bed is massive and quite high). The room was also fully kitted with good lighting, a flat screen TV, an ipod/iphone deck, and connections so you can plug in your camera etc. The bathroom is also great, with good quality towels and Aveda toiletries. Unfortunately one of the glasses I had was dirty, so that put me off a bit. That was the only slip though... I still had a very comfortable and cosy stay at Indigo, and I would definitely return there on my next trip to Newcastle.
The price of the breakfast is a bit of a downside -at £14, it might be good, but it is also overpriced (it doesn't even include an omelette for that price).

My husband and I stayed on 19th September to celebrate our 20th Wedding Anniversary. We booked on the Indigo Fusion rate which included dinner, bed & breakfast. Our first impression was very good. We were greeted by Rachel who was very pleasant & efficient. We ate in the restaurant & this is when our disappointment started. We received 2 wrong dishes (starter & dessert) & even though we queried what we had been given, we were assured by the waiter that they were correct only for him to return a few minutes later & say that the chef had prepared the wrong dish. The food which we got was ok but nothing amazing certainly not we had been expecting. We were served by a lovely, pleasant young man called Nicholas, who was rather embaressed by the mistakes made by the kitchen. Our main problem was with the air con in our room which was so noisy it kept us awake for most of the night & also the light in the wardrobe which kept switching on & off & because there was a gap in the door it again woke us up during the night. In the end I had to hang my black dress in front of the door to try & black it out. On check out we explained to reception how we had not slept & how disappointed we had been with our stay. She did say sorry & that she would ask maintenance to check it. This was meant to be a special occasion & can only say that we left Newcastle very disappointed & extremely tired. I did send my comments to IHG on Thursday afternoon when we returned home but as of today (22nd) they still haven't bothered to acknowledge my comments.

Room Tip: 204 air con unit very noisey - it will keep you awake

Was just what was needed after a long week! My husband and I decided to check out the hotel bar before we headed off to eat at Blackfriars. We were greeted by Kate who took us to the bar and made sure we were looked after. The hotel was buzzing! We will certainly go back and try the restaurant, the menu was very appetising and surprisingly not as expensive as we thought it might be. House champagne £7.95 a glass. Very positive experience.

Simple.

This is a great hotel, nice rooms that are modern and clean. Nice en suite although shower could be a little more powerful. The welcome on arrival was great. I rang reception to ask for more towels and also to make a reservation in the restaurant... I got a knock on the door within 2-3 mins from the maid with about 5 towels and a big smile and the restaurant accommodated a party of 7 at short notice - and made us feel very well looked after.

Great food, great wine and friendly, funny staff in the restaurant. Breakfast was also spot on, despite a mix up with getting me a coffee - I'll let them off because they'd already earned so many brownie points!!

Central location, close to train station, bars and alsorts. Great city too - love Newcastle. All fab. We'll be back!!!

This is part of the Holiday Inn chain, so you can get Priority Club points. Its not expensive, and the service is excellent.
Rooms are just what you'd want in a modern hotel....
Connections to a large screen TV on the wall, so you can plug in iPad, laptop, etc. No messing about with stupid hotel TV systems - it works!
Walk in shower, flush to the floor, and nice toiletries.
Comfortable bed, and air con that works.
Marco Pierre White restaurant, and waitress service breakfast.
Finally, this is 5 minutes from Newcastle Central Station.
Unbeatable!
