Of the Indigo hotels I've stayed at, this one was my favorite. The staff was friendlier, the rooms more ergonomically set up and the location more central.
This Indigo may still be very new, but if they keep up the maintenance, it will remain one of the best equipped in its class. Being in the north, Newcastle may have a rowdier nightlife than southern English cities, but Indigo has insulation so solid (sound and heat) that you'll sleep well no matter what.
This hotel is also geek friendly as its wi-fi is stable and relatively fast and both two Starbucks branches as well as two comic book stores are no more than a short walk away. And no matter your fancy, the American sized mall Metrocentre is only three miles away.
I did not rate this hotel a five as they are missing some attention to detail. I had a few very specific and realistic requests that were not followed up on. As they were rather minor, I was able to remedy most myself, but if there is no doubt about what it is a guest asks for, a clear action should follow in response, regardless of how resourceful a guest may be. Even with those imperfections, the Newcastle Indigo is still the best Indigo I have been to, however. A checklist defining what a ready room after the first night looks like ought to remedy that.
