“My favorite Indigo”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 November 2012

Of the Indigo hotels I've stayed at, this one was my favorite. The staff was friendlier, the rooms more ergonomically set up and the location more central.
This Indigo may still be very new, but if they keep up the maintenance, it will remain one of the best equipped in its class. Being in the north, Newcastle may have a rowdier nightlife than southern English cities, but Indigo has insulation so solid (sound and heat) that you'll sleep well no matter what.
This hotel is also geek friendly as its wi-fi is stable and relatively fast and both two Starbucks branches as well as two comic book stores are no more than a short walk away. And no matter your fancy, the American sized mall Metrocentre is only three miles away.
I did not rate this hotel a five as they are missing some attention to detail. I had a few very specific and realistic requests that were not followed up on. As they were rather minor, I was able to remedy most myself, but if there is no doubt about what it is a guest asks for, a clear action should follow in response, regardless of how resourceful a guest may be. Even with those imperfections, the Newcastle Indigo is still the best Indigo I have been to, however. A checklist defining what a ready room after the first night looks like ought to remedy that.

Room Tip: Balcony equipped rooms are worth the added cost.

The Indigo Hotel is a new hotel in Newcastle and is clearly working hard to make a name for itself. Reception staff are very warm and helpful; everyone seems very eager to help and to make sure all needs are met. Very nice touch; the fridge contains water, chips and chocolate - and it is free. That alone sets it apart from most hotels. Also, free wifi is a great plus. There were a couple of annoying incidences around some charges. Otherwise, it was a completely fabulous experience.

Room Tip: I'm not sure here - it is not in a particularly noisy area but I would still perhaps ask to be o...

This is a lovely modern boutique hotel. On arrival we were welcomed by the friendly concierge and checked in with no problem. We were booked under the platinum priority club rewards, however there was no upgrade on arrival. We went straight to our room which was clean, spacious and modern. The hotel is very central so could walk to many local shops etc. The only issue we had was the extremely noisy air conditioning/ventilating system, this lasted throughout the night, so had quite disturbed sleep on both nights. It sounded like someone plugging a kettle in and when it comes to boil a very loud clanking noise was heard. I mentioned the issue to reception, who say they would make a note and contact the engineer. This was are only complaint, as breakfast was lovely, although it was a buffet there was plenty to choose from. I would recommend this hotel, just get the air conditioning sorted.

Room Tip: Room 339 had noisy ventilation system

This hotel is in a great location and took less than 10 minutes to walk to from the train station. On arrival the staff were all very friendly and gave us pocket guides to the city as we had never visited before, along with a map.
Our room was on the second floor and initially we were impressed with how it appeared and all the gadgets. We loved that there was a speaker in the bathroom so you could hear what's on the TV while showering and the mini fridge in the wardrobe containing complementary soft drinks, a kitkat and packet of crisps was a really nice touch.
The wall mounted TV directly opposite the bed was great but strangely there was a digital clock built in to it that was 50 minutes wrong. Very confusing when we woke up and saw that in the middle of the night.
The bathroom was very modern with a rain shower and mirror that didn't steam up, but it could have done with more places to hang up used towels.
The view wasn't very exciting as we just faced another building but that wasn't a big deal. Surprisingly the window opened really wide and nearly pulled me out when I kept hold of the handle. I assumed there would be a safety catch on it but there didn't seem to be.

When we looked around the room more carefully we were shocked by the amount of dust all over the floor. It meant that any items we had to put on the floor such as our bags got dirty. There were also dead flies next to the window which also suggested that the standard of cleaning needs attention.

We slept terribly in this hotel due to creaking and clicking from the air conditioning system throughout both nights (at a guess this was the cause despite turning the air conditioning off).
Unfortunately people coming into rooms opposite and next door woke us up too due to the doors banging shut. We had aimed to have a relaxing weekend in Newcastle and hoped that we would feel refreshed afterwards but the loud noises really ruined it for us.
All in all I would have swapped the gadgets and gizmos for a better nights sleep.

As soon as we arrived at the well situated hotel everything was excellent, from the secure underground car park to the reception staff that could not have been more polite and accommodating. The room was clean and extremely comfortable, with the added bonus of complementary mini bar which was well stocked. The room also had the extra bonus of full HD television a facility I have never seen before in a city centre hotel room. The bathroom was new and very clean with an excellent shower, comfy robes and extra-large towels which is a feature we fully appreciated. We also used the restaurant which was fantastic and lived up to the reputation of Marco Pierre White’s restaurants. To summarise the best hotel for the price we have stayed in in a UK city.

I did not stay in the hotel but I went for food in the restaurant (Marco Pierre White) and it was absolutely lovely. The staff is quick and friendly, they advise you on drinks and food and seem to have a good knowledge of everything on the menu. The menu is varied and offers a good range of dishes to satisfy meat eaters and vegetarians alike. I had a black pudding/pheasant terrine and was positively surprised that the pheasant ratio was about 90/10. Quite often you'll find that it's a tiny bit of pheasant in a lump of black pudding. The main (spatchcock chicken) was freshly prepared and to die for. The sides were fantastic (I would have happily eaten a bowl of the creamed spinach to myself!). I am not a fan of meringue but the lemon sorbet with fresh meringue was beautiful. All in all the food in the restaurant can be highly recommended. The food is freshly prepared and cooked to perfection. The prices are not as high as I expected and the food is worth every penny. I'll certainly be back!
