Granger Town is a historical central area of Newcastle and was the brainchild of Richard Grainger. Comprising of the Theatre Royal, Grey Street and Grainger Street, to name a few, this area has some beautiful architecture. However the area around Grainger Street and Grey Street is a shopping section and all of the ground levels have, over the years, become shops and to a degree detracts from the heritage of the area. At Christmas the area around Greys Monument becomes a buzz with local stalls and markets. However, throughout the year Grainger Town stands tall and proud to it's humble beginnings back in the early 1800's.
