“Definitely one to try”
Reviewed 3 December 2013

I booked a table for 8 for a birthday meal. The restaurant is rather small and we were sat upstairs. As a group of 8 we weren't looking for intimacy at the table, we had plenty of room and were quite comfortable. The tables are quite close together and if you wanted an intimate romantic night for 2 I don't think this would be the place to achieve it. The lighting upstairs is rather dim and I did need a torch to see the menu properly. However, it is a nice light to sit and eat. Those were the only negative points and are really very minor. The food was excellent. Well cooked and delicious. The staff are incredibly polite and attentive. The prices are very reasonable for a city centre restaurant. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a good Thai meal. I would not say the restaurant/building has "kerb appeal". Please do not be put off, this restaurant is most definitely worth a try.

“Excellent”
Reviewed 2 December 2013

Our first visit here. Found the quality of the food and the portions to be very good, and nicely presented. Prices also very reasonable, apart from the beer!
We sat upstairs, and our table was not very well lit - our only minor gripe.

“Authentic Thai Food”
Reviewed 21 November 2013

We visited as a family of four on 15 Nov 2013 having read the many good previous reviews. We were not disappointed and can agree with the vast majority of positive comments.

The standard of welcome and service was friendly and extremely attentive. The food was presented beautifully with lots of very tasty dishes. Two of us had the set menu at around £20 whilst the other two chose mains from the menu. This meant that we had ample opportunity to share our various selections throughout the meal - exciting!

Although the accommodation is a little cramped as other reviewers have noted our table for four was situated at the window on the ground floor (right hand side of the door on entering) and this proved to be a very comfortable option.

Overall we have no hesitation in recommending The Old Siam. We had a great evening.

“Delicious Food!”
Reviewed 18 November 2013

Small but quirky Thai restaurant on Newcastle Quayside. Staff were very helpful and welcoming, food was delicious- I had the satay chicken followed by sweet and sour king prawns. Large portions and all very fresh. Would come again!

“So tasty”
Reviewed 17 November 2013

We went here for lunch recently and were really impressed. The food was so good, I've been to lots of Thai restaurants in the UK and this is by far one of the best.

The lunch menu was really reasonably priced and had a good selection. Portion sizes were really good filled me up for the rest of the day.

It isn't a big restaurant so I can imagine needing to book in the evenings. The service was ok, staff were busy so had to wait a little for the bill. Also not as polite as other places but no biggy.
