“Loads of beers!”
Reviewed 22 February 2014

Choose here for beer not food. Great choice of drinks, especially a huge choice of bottled beers. Great atmosphere created by people not anything artificial. Located next door to the Tyne Theatre and a 2 minute walk from Chinatown.

“Every town should have one”
Reviewed 31 January 2014 via mobile

Great selection of unusual draught and bottled beers, friendly staff and a take out option, I wish there was a pub like this in my town!

“Slop maquerading as Sunday lunch”
Reviewed 22 September 2013

Arrived for a Sunday lunch with a friend around 14:45. Looked for somewhere to sit, the 'quiet' area/ante room had a dreadful smell so we couldn't sit there, but took an available table in the main bar. Ordered food (3 courses for £10.) I was impressed with range of beers and knowledge of barman. This alas was the highlight. After an average leek and potato soup (which took over 15 minutes to arrive) we were looking forwards to our main course. Disappointed is not the word. Lumpy mash, rock hard broccoli, burnt Yorkshire puddings, awful gravy and soggy, low grade meat. My beef tasted like stewing steak and my friends chicken and stuffing looked like it had been pulled from a casserole. Neither of us could finish. Maybe the desserts would save some grace? Alas the sticky toffee pudding was tasteless, consisting vastly of raisins and mine was swimming in a watery custard. Needless to say the majority was left in our respective bowls.
Food the only issue? Alas no. The two staff who were on shift looked as though they had just rolled out of need and am all for being alternative but being served food and cutlery by someone scruffy and dirty looking in a vastly oversized basketball vest really isn't appealing. The toilets (thankfully) had been recently cleaned, but the store cupboard in the gents had been left open making difficult to get in and out as doors clashed.
Its rare I can't finish a meal or feel positively sick, but we both did. I certainly won't be eating here ever again and would advise nobody else to. Maybe they were understaffed but there is no excuse for such a shocker.

“Massive beer range in a central location for bars.”
Reviewed 1 September 2013 via mobile

With nearly 200 bottled beers to choose from, with standard draught offerings too beer drinkers are spoiled for choice in this bar. Some of the servers are more willing to offer advice and smile than others, indeed, but they were also willing to indulge the stag party i was on when someone thought jagerbombs were a good idea. I think their sensible attitude towards different groups in the bar paid off. Yes, the music was quite loud but it was a Saturday night. If I lived in Newcastle this would be a regular haunt for me. If you are a craft beer fan, get there!

“Good ales and nice drink selection”
Reviewed 23 August 2013

Was in last Saturday to enjoy the ales. Great drinks selection which means that there's always something for the wife. One of the best pubs in town.
