“very warm welcome”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2011

Although this isnt the poshest or most modern place there is always a warm welcome and staff give the impression that nothing is too much trouble.
Rooms are pleasant and clean.
Breakfast lovely

One recommendation would be to improve the coffee. they use an old fashioned coffee perculator which meant my coffee was cold and incredily strong.

We stayed here for two nights on a short break with dinner included on one night. Our room was on the top floor (no elevator) and was rather small with stains on the carpet and a stale smell (like someone had been smoking). The gap between the desk and the bed was only 6 inches, like a double bed was squeezed into a single room. The bathroom extractor and kitchen extractors were noisy. We found some socks from a previous guest!
The dinner and breakfast were rather average, but the service was friendly. The hotel is a short walk to the Metro which has a frequent service into town and around the district. Jesmond is a pleasant area with a few shops, bars, hotels and restaurants. Overall we though the standard was below a typical BW hotel (2 stars) and would not return.

I did a lot of research before booking this hotel. Did my normal practice of sorting the hotels on laterooms.com in order of price and cross referencing them against trip advisor, thereby finding the best hotel at the cheapest price. At £45 a night, this was quite a bargin. There are a few other hotels in the area, but the others I looked at had pretty bad reviews.

The staff on reception were very friendly. My room was small, but clean. The place looked like it had been recently done up. The hotel is in Jesmond, which is around 20 minutes by taxi from central Newcastle. Jesmond is a nice mature residential area with a lot of pubs and restaurants. You can walk to the Metro, where it is £1.50 each way into central Newcastle. It is around 3 stops and takes about 10 minutes.

The parking is a little strange. I managed to get a space at the front of the hotel, but there was a little wall behind the space, which meant that getting in and out of the space took a some time and was a bit awkward. I discovered later that there were spaces to the rear and to the side of the hotel. I guess though, there are less spaces than available rooms, so some guests may have to find street parking.

There is free wifi in the rooms, but it seemed to cut out after around half an hour, you just had to switch the wifi on the laptop off and on again and it re-connected.

Owing to timing of our departure, we didn't have breakfast, so can't review that.

In common with other Best Westerns I have stayed in, the walls are very thin between the rooms, so the walls seemed to shake when the next door room was closed and did hear quite a lot of what was going on in the next room.

All in all though, very good value. I'd stay here again.

Typical 3 star hotel - and to be fair my only stay here. My room was situated next to the main entrance of the first floor - so suffered from constand fire doors opening and closing. The room itself was a single and had a view of the fire escape and a wall - so very pokey. The bathroom was nicely furnished - and had a good shower. The bed seemed quite old and was overly firm - not through the springs but the base.

Breakfast was fine - with a reasonable selection with attentive staff.

Very limited and difficult parking.

It would not be my first choice of hotels in Newcastle - but for a single night was ok.

I stayed in the New Kent hotel in April for the 1 night.
When I arrived I found the smallish car park to be full, and so had to park a very short walk away on the main road. Check in was fine, and I found my room on the top floor. The room was a little cramped, but for 1 nights stay fine. I had a good veiw of the local park and church, and whilst it was smallish, it was light and airy.
I did eat in the bar and was could eat from the bar or restaurant menu. The food was fine and served without too much delay. During my visit I was the only person using the bar and anly a few people were seated in the restaurant.
Just a few hundred yards down the road are a collection of pubs and other places to dine, should you want an alternative to the fare offered by the hotel.
Breakfast was fine and checkout quick and accurate.
If I am in the area again I would consider another night at this hotel.

Room Tip: Stay on the lower floors for free Wi-Fi.

The hotel is part of the Great Western Chain and my expectations were not high but the hotel more than met my expectations. There is free wi-fi, the rooms were well equipped although the decor is dated.
The breakfast seemed a little chaotic as it is all made to order rather than a hot buffet and as everyone seemed to come for breakfast at the same time it took longer than I would expect to get served.
The location is great, near the Metro, local shops and restaurants and it was great to be somewhere more residential than in the city centre for a change.
If I needed to be in this area again for work I would stay here.
