A quiet break away from the madness that is shopping in Newcastle upon tyne. The pace in Eldon garden is much slower than the rest of Eldon square. I can go on my own and have a light lunch and pot of tea, the staff are welcoming and do not try to sit me in a place out of the way as some restaurants do to someone who dares to come in and dine alone. I can recommend the soup with the best bread I have ever tasted. On this visit I had the rare beef salad, delicious, not a dollop of mayonnaise or coleslaw in sight, and when i mentioned the lovely bread I had last time, the waiter brought me a slice. I may even fit in another visit before September, and if I am unable to get in I have no one else to blame but myself.
