“Awesome!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 November 2013 via mobile

Been here a couple of times now. Great pies, delicious creamy mash, thick yummy gravy. Portions don't look huge but are VERY filling! Bargain 2 for £10 every wed.
Love the dark old higgledy building with all it's hidden rooms and open fires. Great atmosphere.

They do need to address the smelly toilets (it's the men's but spills out into corridor) but service is quick and friendly and pudding portions are huge and absolutely delicious!!

Will become a regular here providing they change the pies often enough to offer variety and continue to offer good veggie options for my partner.

“Wednesday night deal”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 November 2013 via mobile

Visited on a very cold and wet Wednesday night. Warm and cosy when we walked in and the service from the staff was just welcoming. It was 7.45 when we arrived and found a table - although there wasn't many spare. Good choice of wines - we had the house Sauvignon Blanc which was a bargain at £15! Also appeared to be a good beer selection. Deliberated over the pie choice - would happily have had any! Extra bonus was the 2 pie meals for £10 on Wednesdays...outstanding value for a fuss free evening! Would definitely return!

“Pie & Pint for £8? Pie me!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 November 2013

The Red House is a perfect example of how to serve one thing, do it right and keep people coming back; if you haven't been you need to.

Nevermind the food - even if you just come here for a pint and you're lucky (or it's mid-week) the Red House has window seating with a great view of the Tyne Bridge and the surrounding Quayside buildings. If it's winter and you're cold then head to the back and warm yourself by the log fire.

That aside the concept is simple: choose your pie, mash, accompaniment and finally the liquors (gravy). Come on a Monday and you'll get your pie and a drink (selected pints, wines or soft drinks) for £8 - excellent value; Wednesdays are 2 meals for £10.

There's only 2 veggie pies but that's 2/7 of the options, a far better ratio than most places and both are equally delicious; the peas (mushy or minted) or pease pudding come in a healthy sized portion and the gravies are just right. Even with a relatively small menu I still procrastinate when choosing.

The deserts, though simple, are equally delicious and at £4.50 definitely a must do...if you still think you've got the room!

There are other pubs in town with more pretension about their food and charge more yet still can't beat Red House for quality and value.

If you're not sold yet they've got an excellent ale range and decent selection of whiskies not to mention it's one of Newcastle's most unmolested old-style pubs: worth the visit alone!

“A fine meal..”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 November 2013 via mobile

I visited this pub with a guided tour by Alone n the Dark Entertainment who had booked us in for a real pie and mash meal. The tour was amazing and the food was to die for.

The history was outstanding once you knew about it from the guide, it really brought the place to life. It is a shame that the pub have no history boards.

The pub has some fantastic rustic decor, feels like a real old world Tavern and not too bad a price.

The down side was the service was not the best, it was average. The toilets where not good either.

But for a new hipster hotspot it did the job.

We will be back..
