Saw it advertised on the newcastlegateshead website and decided to check it out as I like cakes. The decor inside is light and reflects the sunlight. There is a good selection of cakes and cupcakes. I had the raspberry and white chocolate cake which was moist and a large slice. My boyfriend had the strawberry cheesecake cake which he said was nice. Only downside is that there are no prices displayed for the cakes. They also do cakes to order from their website.

My sister and I went for a birthday afternoon tea, we'd followed the cupcakery for a while before becoming very excited that they'd opened a shop!

We didn't have too much trouble finding it although it is a little out of the way, you can park near but we chose to park further away and walk along the quayside first.

On first impression the decor was lovely, very shabby chic with white painted tables and chairs (did think a cushion would be nice if you were going to be there a while like us) simple but effective. We were greeted by friendly staff and although we were early for our booking it was no problem at all to sort us out. Our table was reserved and decorated with pretty vintage looking china. It was quite quiet on arrival but there was a steady stream of people using the cafe and taking away food.

The price includes as much tea as you want and there was a good selection available apart from decaf (which I really wanted as I'm pregnant).

The counter was stuffed full of lovely cakes, brownies and other baked goodies, our mouths were watering when they brought our tea out...wow!! Not one but two large tiered trays! There was a nice selection of deep filled sandwiches and about 5 full size cakes including a enormous cream scone, millionaire brownie, rhubarb and custard cake, cheesecake and a profiterole. This was each I'll add again! I was slightly disappointed there wasn't a cupcake as this was originally their speciality!

My favourite being a savoury person was the sandwiches, I also love brownie and was excited to try a millionaire brownie and although it tasted nice the textures of the layers were quite similar. We were a little bit over faced by the amount of cake but soldiered on to try all of them!! We were given a box to take the remainder home!

Overall it was a lovely afternoon tea in a nice setting, the cost was £19 which I thought was expensive seeing as its a similar price for more upmarket places such as Jesmond Dene Hotel but the amount you received was worth it!

Thank you British Cupcakery for a nice birthday afternoon, I'll definitely be back maybe to try the lunch menu and of course the ever changing cakes!

Had read about the 'cupcakery' opening in Living North and went to try it out on Sunday afternoon. Clean and airy large room, prettily decorated and very quiet... The choice of cakes - both cup and otherwise - was decent but not massive; I had a raspberry & chocolate brownie which was quite dry, but my husband's passion fruit cheesecake was lovely. Good sized pot of tea each and cakes came to about £10. A large group came in while we were there and the service seemed slow and haphazard. There were no paper towels or toilet roll left in the (unisex) toilet. Ok - but wouldn't rush back.
