I have been to Dabbawal in Jesmond several times in the last few months, and it never disappoints. The food is fresh and fantastic - something really different and so much tastier than the usual curry house.
There is a great mix of spicy and mild, yet very tasty food, on offer for every palate.
I would recommend going for the chefs surprise menu (£21pp at time of writing). You get a fabulous selection of nibbles, starters and main courses and they will tailor it to suit the requirements of the group.
Would definitely recommend, and I'm looking forward to my next visit

Located in a tucked away location not far from West Jesmond station outside Newcastle -this restaurant takes you away into another world of spice and street food India. The menu is interesting and the tastes are authentic and the decor is cool. Especially like the lemonades served in Jam Jars a nice touch.
Good for couples and parties but book.

We have been to their restaurant in town and think this is even nicer. Great atmosphere, beautifully decorated with real attention to detail. The outside space is fantastic, it feels like being on holiday. The food is so much better than the usual indian fayre and tastes authentic. The menu is really interesting, we can recommend their surprise menu if you can't decide. Great value and helps you choose from the menu on your return visit! Love the 'street food' concept as it's like Indian 'tapas' making it a good place for lunch too. The food is beautifully presented. This restaurant deserves to be packed every day and night. It's offering something a bit different in great surroundings. It's tucked away behind Brentwood Avenue but definitely well worth finding. We can certainly recommend and plan to become regulars. Thank you.

A group of work colleagues came here mid week after work. The place was fairly busy at around 8pm when we arrived. Located down an alley way, one might not find this place too easily. However, do check it out. As there were 7 of us here we opted for the sides and tapas / starters. Their menu does recommend 3 per person so we made sure that we ordered enough. Portions, I felt, were perhaps a little small, unless you opted for the big eat option. The food was well presented, and tasted good. Suitably spiced for those who perhaps do not like overly spicy food. I got around this by asking for a side of fresh chopped chilies. Drink prices were on par with most restaurants. £3 - 5 for a beer. £15 pounds for a bottle of wine. I would certainly recommend this place for a night out.

I came with 4 friends when our first choice let us down (Brandling Arms - terrible customer service recieved). We had a drink outside whilst a food table came available. We had poppadoms and chutneys to start - very nice selection!! For mains we shared 3 rice and a chefs bread selection with a main each and that was a good amount of food (and it included 2 boys and girls who can eat!!). The food isn't too hot (unless you want it to be) and everyone enjoyed it.

The service was very attentive (sometimes a little too much with all three staff members checking on us)

It is tucked away down a little back street but this is great as you feel really separated from the main street. - Recommend!
