Holiday Inn Express Newcastle City Centre
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 8 August 2011

A large family group needed a central hotel in Newcastle and we decided that the Holiday Inn Express was ideally situated. We were attending a wedding reception at the Centre For Life and this hotel was only a 5 minute walk away. The railway station was only a little further on, maybe 10 minutes walk. The only difficulty I had was navigating a way to the front door without satnav! The hotel is readily visible on the dual carriageway but coming from the south you cannot cross a central barrier until further up the road, then you have to work your way around the side streets. Once you get there you park directly outside the main entrance to unload before parking in the adjacent Grainger Town multi-storey car park. You only pay for parking before 6pm and after 8 am. We arrived on a Saturday about 3.30 pm and were leaving at 10.00 am on the Sunday morning and it only cost £3 and that would have been through until Sunday evening so it was certainly value for money. The receptionists had very kindly put our group on the top floor (5th) to keep us away from any noisy hen/stag parties who were apparently on the lower floors. We were not disturbed by them so that was the main thing. The room was very clean and well presented. There was a sofa bed in the room and our room had a connecting door through to next door. There was no wardrobe as such but a hanging rail which was fine for our one night stay. The single door into the bathroom could be positioned to offer privacy in the toilet area. Breakfast in the morning was well presented, tasty and offered plenty of choice. The staff were friendly and helpful at check-in and in the restaurant. The hotel is only about a 10-15 minute walk from Eldon Square Shopping Centre for those needing some retail therapy. All in all we were very happy with the night we spent in the hotel and would use it again if we needed a good value, central hotel in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

Room Tip: Ask for an upper floor room away from any excessive noise.

We were a party of 12 age ranging from 22/52 for a fortieth birthday. Each and everyone of us agreed we would go back to Newcastle and stay in the same hotel.
Loads to do in the city and plenty of good places to eat.
The people of Newcastle are so friendly and will always help you out when you need directions and advice about local attractions.
If your into shopping then Newcastle has it all,in the city and then you have the Metro center a 7 minute ride out of the city.

This place does exactly what it says on the label. You know exactly what you're going to get and it's well-delivered. Rooms were great and beds comfortable. It's in a very convenient part of town. It's not posh but that's not why you stay here: you do so because you want to know exactly what to expect!

Room not ready at 2pm to check in - long delay and just asked to wait in the bar. Still no room at 3pm. Finally got into room at 3.30 after long discussion with receprion staff - who had allocated rooms that were ready to guests who had yet to check in. A bizarre system that kept many people waiting. Staff not helpful and no offer of drink while waiting for them to get rooms sorted. Room fine once we finally got there
Poor respsonse from management to a follow up email.
Good location for city centre and good on site parking.

Dear Guest
Thank you very much for your feedback regarding your recent stay at the Holiday Inn Express Newcastle and I am really pleased that you found the hotel to be in a good location with good on site Parking. We obviously had a very short busy period at the time you arrived and I am sorry that we kept yourself and friends waiting to check in. We do try to keep all the groups together and allocate others to the "quiet" floors wherever possible as this means that we do not receive any noise complaints later on. I am also sorry you were not happy with management response should you wish to contact me on 0191 2246850 then I would be glad to be of help.Thank you once again for your comments
Kind regards

We were there for one night in July 2011. Location is so convenient. Only 5 min. walk from the railroad station. The staff was so friendly and when we asked about toruist information, he provided us a map and kind instruction how to get to that place. When we visited Hadrian's wall next day, they kept our luggage for free of charge. As we had some time to kill in the evening, we used their internet connection at the lobby. They gave us password although we have already checked out. I was not feeling well but I was able to rest at their lobby.

The room is perfectly clean. It has water kettle and instant coffee and tea and milk. Very quiet and confortable bed. Nice shower. Good breakfast. Great deal for the price.
