“Help is at hand”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

Great hotel, usual Premier Inn friendliness but let down by adjoining Beefeater restaurant. Only gripes about the hotel itself were the incredible stuffiness of the room in recent hot weather and the absurd towels policy, which requires you to ask for an extra handtowel from reception; two guests should equal two hand towels and two bathtowels. On day three of our stay we were left with just one of each! On our first night we were looking forward to a meal at the Beefeater but we had to wait for ages after placing our order, then more than 20 minutes between starter and mains, and when the mains finally arrived the meat was lukewarm at best. Our complaint was met with incredulity and, eventually, the offer of a replacement meal - but we had had enough of sitting around by then. The atmosphere was not helped by our waiter's style of clearing adjoining tables - by sweeping debris onto the floor, so we and other diners were sitting in a sea of crumbs, peas, chips, egg etc. Definitely our worst Beefeater experience ever. BUT help was at hand in the form of a Farmhouse Inns restaurant, Willow Farm, just a quarter of a mile from the Premier Inn. Great service, fantastic value (especially the Carvery) and they do breakfast.

Friendly staff, clean room & bathroom, minimal noise (stayed on the ground floor in a family room) so comfy & relaxing. Bit pricey when we stayed, £95 just for room (no breakfast) previous stay was £56! But still a great experience, no complaints!

The hotel is far too close to Newcastle airport. This means that you have to have the windows closed to avoid aircraft noise (clearly a lot of it at this time of the year). However the hotel does not have air conditioning only air circulation, so when its humid (as it was when I stayed) you either have to have the window open and put up with the noise or suffer a sultry room.

Also, had a fire alarm activation during the early evening. All the staff seemed to be concerned about was silencing the alarm. Have had this in other hotels and the first reaction is to summon the fire brigade and then investigate. Didn't feel at all safe after this.

Room Tip: Try another hotle away from the airport

After huge problems trying to book a disabled room for this hotel we gave up, registering that we needed this type of room on the online form but having no way of contacting the hotel. Fortunately although the initial room we were shown was not suitable the receptionist manged to change this for a great accessible room which was well laid out and met my mother's needs well. Room clean and functional, what would expect for the price. Not scenincally located on main road but where we needed to be and actually suprisingly quiet inside. Breakfast especially on the Saturday was a joke, serously wish we hadn't bothered paying. People were waiting for over 45minutes for cooked breakfasts, we had opted for continental but there was virtually nothing out, everything was empty no bread, juice, yoghurt or milk. After asking for things to be refilled on two ocasions we gave up. We raised this on check out and had the cost of that days breakfast refunded but this issue really needs to be properly addressed. The staffing levels for busy breakfast days need to be sorted out promptly toprevent this problem consantly recurring. also there should be some way of contacting the hotel if you have booked a disabled room to ensure this meets your needs before arriving!

The Premier in chain get it right again. A good overnight stop. Room clean and well presented, friendly staff on check-in and plenty of parking.
Restaurant next door served some tasty dishes and the waiting staff were beyond helpful and make the meal that much more enjoyable. Everyone is really friendly (but you are up north so that’s a given).

Just get that free Wi-Fi sorted and make it permanent!

Room Tip: Lots more parking areound the back - dont panic!
