“Revisit merely confirmed previous excellent experience”
Reviewed 11 May 2013

Revisited with friends for a two night stay on bed and breakfast basis with evening meal on first evening and can confirm my original findings. The facilities, rooms, and food were excellent and the staff without exception were friendly and extremely helpful at all times. The hotel, which is set in such beautiful surroundings within easy reach of the city centre, has such a relaxing friendly atmosphere with comfortable lounges, a lovely restaurant setting with views of the surrounding gardens. Rooms are of the highest standard and superbly equipped.
One of our party is disabled and his accommodation was a disabled suite. The suite was superb with so much room to move around even for someone confined to a wheelchair. He had his own private terrace with seating area. The bathroom / wet room was large enough to accommodate his mobile scooter and had every facility he would require.
We enjoyed the breakfast options of continental, with a choice of meats, fruits and cereals and the full english alternative. The food in the restaurant in the evening was excellent and service was likewise of a high standard. We chose from the competitively priced house menu.
From the moment we arrived until leaving we were so well looked after by all staff in a professional;and attentive manner and we all agreed that the standard of this hotel in every department is excellent.

A fabulous visit, from arrival gin and tonics in the lounge, tasting menu is a must and a beautiful room with the sound of the birds and the babbling water to wake too. What more could you ask for and just on the outskirts of Newcastle city centre.

Hidden away in Jesmond Dene this hotel has so much to offer, the staff are so helpful and the food is magnificent. We visited for a special event but would certainly stay in the future. From the moment we arrived we were looked after by the staff, the attention to detail is perfect and we felt really special on the day.

Stayed here for one night on business. From the initial welcome to the farewell the staff here are all first class and genuinely friendly.

The rooms are all different - I had a view over the gardens and the gentle sound of the brook coming through my open windows. A colleague had a room which had a nice little balcony. All of the fittings are good and in the bathroom there are some nice toiletries provided with big fluffy towels. The beds are firm but not too hard and very comfortable. The pillows and bedding are very good quality and the room has lots of nice little touches.

We chose to eat in the bar rather than in the main restaurant. Calling it a bar is doing it a disservice. There are two rooms with comfortable seating and, as in the rest of the hotel, some great pieces of art to look at. The food was great quality and very filling.

I guess one of the best things I can say about this place is that I would happily return and pay to stay with my own money at this hotel.

I was treated to a stay in January, and was promised a fantastic time. The hotel completely exceeded my expectations - I have stayed in many hotels across Europe and the UK, and this was the most special stay I have ever had. Everything was perfect- from the staff (who really do deserve a special mention as they are the most welcoming and helpful people) to the attention to detail throughout, which really sets this hotel apart from the rest.

The hotel is set against a leafy Jesmond Dene backdrop with wonderful hotel gardens..very private yet only ten minutes from the centre - truly a place to relax and unwind. Upon arrival it had snowed and the hotel looked like something out of a fairytale - picturesque.

We received an upgrade, which was a nice surprise, and were given a room in the eves (32) would definitely recommend - the bathroom was beautiful and spacious, with a walk-in shower and huge bath and quirky sloping ceilings - felt more like a huge flat than a hotel room! The bedroom was beautifully presented and clean and bright with a huge double bed and had a lovely airy feel. Upon opening the window we found we could hear the stream below and we also had a lovely view- why would you choose a city centre hotel and traffic noise when you could choose this tranquil getaway?

The food (The Three-Course House Menu or Foodie Special) was sensational, with a complimentary amuse bouche in between courses and a complimentary pre-dessert. Faultless food, served by very attentive staff, who recommended a fine choice of wine to compliment the meal. We felt very spoilt. Breakfast the next day was a choice from a huge selection of pastries, fresh fruit, yoghurts, croissants, full english breakfast, smoothies and coffee, but champagne is also offered. We accidentally ticked 'honeycomb' on our breakfast card and couldn't believe it when they brought this up to us.

Overall this stay was the nicest I have experienced in a hotel. The staff are truly exceptional - from booking our reservation to dining to leaving the hotel - nothing is too much trouble. What a refreshing change from so many chain hotels. A unique hotel. Well done Jesmond Dene House, we'll be back.

Room Tip: Go for a room with a view. 32 was fab, but has a short flight of stairs and was a deluxe room.

We have stayed at Jesmond Dene House quite a few times over the past few years. This time it was a trip overnight for a board meeting for me, and shopping for my wife - she rates Newcastle in the top league for retail.
Bedrooms are all very comfortable here. They are by no means small, although it does depend on the grade one settles for. But I would say that it is the bathrooms which make an overnight stay here just that bit more luxurious. The room we had - which overlooked the Dene - had a large bathroom, with heated tiled floor, a proper, sensibly shaped and thus comfortable bath, and a very good shower.
The public areas of the hotel are superb. The main bar is quite large without being cavernous when nearly empty, there is a very comfortable lounge, and of course there is an extremely good restaurant.
The position of the hotel is wonderful. It is only about half a mile as the crow flies to the city centre, yet the hotel feels almost like a country house hotel, situated as it is at the side of Jesmond Dene - a fairly deep ravine through which the river flows. No traffic noise here!
Our only complaint, otherwise I might have given it a "five", was that in the morning the water was only lukewarm. This was a technical problem, it could happen anywhere, but the check-out staff did not explain it properly. But apart from that, this is a hotel at the top of its game.

Room Tip: The superior rooms at the back, with a view over the Dene, are the best.

With Jesmond Dene House you get the best of both worlds -close proximity and easy access to the City centre and the peace and tranquility of the Dene. The hotel is beautiful - the original house has been sensitively restored, retaining the integrity of this historic building. The internal decor and soft furnishings create a relaxed ambience.
All the staff we encountered during our 3 night stay were professional, helpful and friendly. Our superior room [20] was lovely. It had a huge bathroom,a balcony overlooking the Dene and plenty of storage space. Can't wait to return.
