“Fantastic curry!”
Reviewed 8 June 2014

An excellent new Indian restaurant for Newcastle. The service is attentive and welcoming, the restaurant is smartly decorated with a modern feel. The food is superb, some of the best Indian food I have had, the menu has a wide variety of choice that caters for all tastes and includes dishes that are not usually found on a typical Indian menu. I tied a lamb Maska, which I've never had before - the meat was plentiful (and not at all fatty) and the dish was rich and very flavourful without being too hot. My friend had prawn dhansak which had loads of prawns in it and was superior to any dhansak i've ever tasted (and i've had a lot!). We had a side portion of onion bhaji which were brilliant; freshly cooked (often the case when ordering this popular dish) and not at all greasy or stodgy. Similarly, the nan breads were fresh and very hot straight out of the tandoor. The prices offer good value for money and as the place doesn't have an alcohol licence you can bring your own booze, which keeps the cost down! We went on a Friday evening and the place was not very busy, but reading the other reviews it's obviously only just opened, I think once the word goes round about the quality of the food that will change. It is located off the beaten track, and doesn't look anything special from the outside, but it is well worth the trip for a brilliant meal!

“Seriously the best curry in Newcastle!”
Reviewed 7 June 2014

I have been eating this chef's curries for 20 years and they are by far and away the best I have ever eaten. The flavouring is superb, the heat is always just right (and he will adjust it for your palate) the naan breads are always absolutely fresh from the tandoor - so hot they to hot to touch, mmmmm brilliant. Husain and Mohsin are attentive without being over bearing. All in all a great experience. It is not in the most upmarket part of Newcastle but if you've seen House of Cards then you'll recall Franks favourite Rib joint - well Chillies is the Newcastle version.

“A Brand New Indian Restaurant”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

Chillies has just started business on Heaton Road, Newcastle upon Tyne. It is being run by Hussein and the chief chef from another excellent restaurant in another part of town. The restaurant is small and simply decorated. However it is the presence 'in front of house' of Hussein which makes tis special. He is a lovely person and always has a word for his customers, many of whom have followed him here. Also, the food is superb. We particularly liked the Chicken Mussomon, with green beans, and the Harry Mirch Mossalla for it's chillies. The also do curries for the very brave based on Naga chillies which are extremely hot. As you would expect the service is excellent. The prices are very reasonable with a discount in May. Highly Recommended!!

An excellent meal, beautifully prepared food, friendly and attentive staff and a good atmosphere. Great value for money and a wide range of choice beyond the standard Indian range.
