“forget the rest, its the best.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 August 2014

first of all leave all your restaurant expectations outside ,this is a quirky ,rustic ,taste of italy, and is without a doubt the best italian style eatery anywhere, you cannot book ahead and depending on what time you arrive you may have to queue ,on friday or saturday this could be up to an hour depending on the size of your group, but thats all put of the francescas style ,no matter how long the queue everyone always gets served ,how they do it is both a mystery and a miracle, but its all down to the fabulous staff both on the floor and in the kitchen, and you can get drinks from the bar while queuing .most of the staff are genuinely italian with exception of the gorgeous geordie waitress who is always friendly and attentive to your needs, theres plenty of good natured banter between the waiters most of which is in italian so take your phrasebook, the food is fresh and authentic ,the best garlic prawns you will ever have, and only for the brave the mighty chicken valdostana, the chips are proper potato and not those rubbish frozen ones you get in many places , and always fresh hot and golden ,the side salads are fresh and crispy ,fillet steaks are generous and juicy and always done to your liking ,there are so many combinations of sauses to go with your chicken or steak its hard to choose, also there if a wide choice of pizza and pasta dishes which you can customise to your own taste ,if you ask nicely,,the wine comes in litre bottles and at around £12 is the best value anywhere,so leave your restaurant snobbery at the door,be patient, and you will have a great night,if its your birthday you will be seranaded italian style, and you might be lucky and catch an impromptu karaoke night ,just enjoy and dont forget to generously tip the hard working staff.

“Family Favorite”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 August 2014

I have been coming to this restaurant for over 20years now and it never disappoints, i should have wrote this review many years ago. Every Italian restaurant I have crossed the doors of has been compared to Francesca’s and I’ve never been to one that comes close to beating it for quality, price and taste. We had a meal on Saturday evening and it was fantastic as usual. I had the Garlic King Prawns to start with and the complimentary bread which is always delish and fresh. The king prawns are to die for and it's a confession of mine that i very rarely stray from this as a starter however the other dishes I’ve had here have also been very good ( King Prawn Piccani? Muscles)

The queue, which is always out of the door is a testimony to how great this place is given that you cannot book a table. The food is to a very high standard with a small price tag. I love the fact you can get a 1/2 bottle of house wine which is very nice, ideal for me as my partner doesn’t like wine so it means i can get this for myself rather than a full bottle. For my main i had Fillet Steak with Peppercorn sauce, again delicious, the beef just melted in your mouth, one of the nicest steaks I’ve ever had, i could eat it again as i write this. Hand cut chips are huge portion and very nice . The portions here are very large and you can request to take home anything you can’t manage to eat. The atmosphere is excellent, very hustle and bustle but everyone is in good spirits, I remember going here as a child and being terrified of the singing Italian waiters but as I have grown up with this place it is now somewhere that I hold very close to my heart, it has never changed although the waiters are a little older they still offer a great customer experience and make this place what it is. I urge anyone who has not been to go and experience this place for its Fantastic food, atmosphere and value for money, it is a refreshing change from any restaurant chains or bargain happy hour Italians deals, you will not be disappointed.

“Atmospheric with Value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2014

This place is an interesting turn on surrounding restaurants. You queue for a table, theres a bar to keep people entertained and the staff are always charming and interactive. The idea of queuing for a table instead of booking in advance is daunting at first, however the queue doesn't last very long and it is worth it. The food is fantastic, especially for the price. High quality, Incredibly tasty with a low price tag, not many places (especially surrounding it) that can offer you that. The restrooms are clean. The atmosphere in the place is energetic, you leave feeling very satisfied. The limoncello is very good too!

“Always busy & it's easy to see why”

A very reasonably priced Italian restaurant complete with Italian waiters & chefs - lots of drama - good food & buckets of atmosphere. Slap bang in the middle of student land so a great place to take the folks.
