“What Tapas should be like”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 July 2014

It's been a couple of years since I'd last eaten at El Coto and it's still the best tapas I've had outside of Spain. We went in early evening to reserve a table for later as it was a Saturday night and the restaurant was already filling up. We sat inside although there were outdoor tables, great atmosphere, good Spanish beers and a good choice of tapas, a million times better than certain chain tapas restaurants which lack flavour. The lamb in red wine stew was spot on, wished we'd ordered one each instead of one to share, under £40 for two with beers and 7 dishes to share, not sure if it's just typical North East prices or if this is just a gem of a restaurant but we'll be back for sure.

“Great food, great atmosphere, great restaurant!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 July 2014

Me and my wife visited here on a Saturday night having booked the previous day. We arrived to find the front bar empty and wondered if we had made a mistake booking, but how wrong we were! We followed on thro a small corridor thro to the big restaurant area at the rear of the building and it was busy with a great hustle bustle atmosphere. We were shown to our table by friendly staff which was ready for us and scoured thro the menu. We had read that most go with the £15.95 set menu which did look good value but decided to just pick 6 tapas of our own which are all reasonable prices and great choice. We accompanied our tapas with some olive bread and a litre jug of Sangria which was lovely and fruity, went down a treat. All the tapas then shortly followed and were all piping hot and very tasty. We cleared every plate and couldn't fault anything. We decided to just get the bill as we were full to the brim and were happy with the cost of £45. All in all a great night with great food and we will defo be returning in the near future to try some other delicious things from the menu !!

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2014

3 of us visited this restaurant, for the first time.
Immediately impressed by atmosphere and friendliness of staff.
Recommended to have the set meal for 3 - it was brilliant. Just about right amount of food and good variety.
Best tapas ever been to.
Staff brilliant.
Can't recommend highly enough.

“Lush, as ever!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 June 2014 via mobile

Countless times we have dined here, our favourite tapas restaurant in newcastle!

We dined here for the first time in a while, I was excited to say the least. I won't be waiting too long again before I go back again. The food is amazing and the staff are lovely.

We had the set menu for 2 again as it is unbeatable on value and just great food! We had a sangria to start and a lovely bottle of Rioja with the meal. There wasn't one thing I could criticise about our evening.

See my previous reviews with more detail about the food, I love this place and hope it never changes.

Great for a couples night and great for a large party/ birthday/ work night out.

If you've never been and you love tapas then try it. You won't regret it!
