Holiday Inn Kenilworth - Warwick
Ranked #4 of 7 Hotels in Kenilworth
Reviewed 1 August 2009

We stayed here on a 2night B&B one evening meal deal. The position of the hotel at the top of the new main street in Kenilworth is very good. There are plenty of restaurants within easywalking distance along the Warwick Road. The room with 2 double beds was well furnished and comfortable although both beds did not allow space to get in and out on both sides as they were right by the wall on one side. The bathroom was small but functional and the towels, hand, face and bath sheets were lovely.
We were surprised by the lack of choice in some areas at breakfast.. The fruit salad consisted of mostly tinned fruit and there was no fresh fruit ike apples, oranges or bananas. There was no choice of breads, just brown and white sliced for toast. The cooked buffet was OK but suffered from being rather lukewarm.
The table d'hote 3 course dinner was rather poor. It lacked imagination. We had some "handmade" chips as a side order. These were soggy and a very strange dark brown! Our other side order of chunky sald was a few lettuce leaves with about 1 tomato cut up and a few bits of pepper. Our creme brulee was accompanied by 3 hobnob biscuits! No homemade shortcake biscuits here!
We had to get our bill amended as we had been charged for 4 breakfasts that were included in the deal.

We are sorry to hear the food selection and choice did not meet your expectations. We have now improved our breakfast menu and offer a range of fresh fruit and a selection of breads as part of the standard breakfast buffet. The hotel restaurant 212 Kenilworth offers a range of modern and traditional dishes and the menu changes seasonally to give customers variety. We strive to improve our menu choices and accomodate the wide range of customers visiting the hotel at all times.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Kenilworth in July 09 as I had to attend a Graduation Ceremony at Warwick University. The hotel has been refurbished recently so the rooms are really confortable. The only downfall of this hotel is the front desk staff which were slightly unpleasant, and abrupt. No smile, no small talks, just "give me your credit card" type.

There is refurbishment going on, but this seems to be almost complete. Room was beautifully equipped with new plush soft furnishings, well co-ordinated. Spotless bathroom with luxurious toiletries. Breakfast was very good and the staff were extremely attentive. Located conveniently for the town centre and abbey gardens. Be warned about the lift though. It is very small and if you press your floor button more than once, you will stop at every floor on the way up or down.

The hotel is vastly improved but has considerable disruptions due to the renovation work which was neither disclosed on check in or their web site. Parking is still a problem due to limited spaces available. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Comments relate only to our Xmas Day lunch booking - not accommodation. We booked and paid just under £100 for lunch for 2 but my car broke down on the way from London so we couldn't get to Kenilworth from Stratford (as it was Xmas Day).

I called the hotel over 24 hours before the booking to explain why we had to cancel. I asked for a partial refund but the staff were unsympathetic and refused to refund anything. I suggested a refund of half would be fair as this would cover food they may have already purchased - but no, zero refund. This was just greedy and unethical in the circumstances.

Stayed here recently with friends, got a room upgrade when we checked in and was pleasantly surprised in view of some of the reviews on here.
The rooms were a good size, clean and included hairdrier, trouser press, iron & ironing board. The bathroom was adequate and well stocked with towels and toiletries. Even though the hotel was reasonably busy, the rooms were very quiet.
Breakfast was more than adequate, a good choice and well served on a "help yourself" buffet.
All staff we met were very pleasant, helpful and courteous.

No complaints here after this stay. I understand that Macdonalds have just sold this hotel, and it is now known as the De Montfort Conference Centre.

After reading the reviews about this hotel we were very apprehensive. Yes, the building is 1960's, and not the most beautiful in the world. HOWEVER we found the staff pleasant and helpful, the room quiet, clean and comfortable with everything we required, including lovely fluffy clean towels. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic - eat as much as you like, with plenty of toast, fruit, yoghurt, full range of cereals, fruit juices, coffee, tea, bacon, sausages, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, beans, fried fresh tomatoes - I could go on and on! All in all we were impressed and would certainly stay again if in the area.
