“Nice Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 August 2014 via mobile

We had an initial mix up with our room, they gave us a double instead of the King Room we booked. But this was sorted out quickly. The room was a good size and the bed was reasonable comfortable. The breakfast was of good quality and couldn't be faulted. Didn't try the restaurant in the evenings due to reading previous reviews. Bar drinks were very expensive.

Stayed at this hotel but was a bit dubious about some of the negative reviews. We had a lovely room even though a little warm without a view otherwise it would be 5 star. Food in restaurant was excellent and all staff were attentive. Would recommend for a quiet relaxing stay.

If you like to try and sleep on a hard sprung mattress, then this is the hotel for you! And if you only want to watch bbc1 and 2, itv1 and 2, e4, sky news, cnn and a poor reception of channel 5 and no channel 4 - then this is the place to book!

The hotel was easy to get to and was in a very pleasant location with lovely gardens. The spa treatments were excellent, lunch and breakfast was excellent but the evening meal was not cooked well and was the only disappointment in what was a really good value and enjoyable spa and hotel.

We had upgraded and paid extra for a superior room but I'm not entirely sure what was superior about it. The fridge was broken and despite reporting this twice nothing was done about it, the fridge was actually warm inside, warmer than the actual hotel room which meant the water left inside by the hotel was undrinkable and my wife was unable to store her refrigerated medication safely we resorted to using a cool bag in the car!! Tv channels very poor we expected far more from this level of hotel and no movie channels were available despite being advertised in the room. Very good breakfast but not worth the £15 extra if you've not included it in your room rate.

Dear Clare - Michael

Thank you for your review and I am very sorry your accommodation failed to meet your expectations. As its difficult for us to track your stay through the review perhaps you could contact us with your room number and we can investigate and address the issue, I am sorry again, this was not done at the time.

I would also be interested to know what channel you made your reservation through as all our room rates are inclusive of breakfast we do not do a room only rate. It may be that this is being mis advertised so it would be good to look into this as well.

Thank you for taking the time to bring your concerns to our attention.

Kind regards

2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 August 2014

I had a voucher for a birthday present of a leisure spa day and chose the Chesford Grange as this was one of the hotels it could be used at. When I booked it I was told that the pm would be a better time as there wouldn't be any children in the pool as lessons were in the morning. What a disappointment! I took my sister with me as the voucher was for 2 also a book, hoping to relax and enjoy a little pampering. What a let down. On our arrival we were told we could use all facilities, this included a swimming pool, steam room, and gym. We were given a towel and then charged £5 for the use of a dressing gown which we thought you had to wear. It was not necessary as the changing room went straight into the swimming pool that you could fit in my living room, it was really small. To start with there were 4 of us in the pool dodging each other so we didn't collide, then 3 families arrived with small children that screamed and threw things in to swim to the bottom to pick up. We all got out of the pool and one couple left as it was so noisy and the pool was crowded. We went in the steam room for a bit of respite but could still hear the children. We went into the gym and although there was a lot of equipment, it was full of men so found it embarrassing especially as we didn't know what to do with any of it. Back into the pool to try another swim, more children and now a baby too. No good so we went on the beds, there are 6 right next to each other as the area is so small and they were also outside the window of the office. You lie on them with the staff right behind you, they don't even have blinds at the window. I picked up my book to read but I put it away as it was so noisy. Was it relaxing...No! Was it worth the money definitely not! Would I go again No! An afternoon spoilt in a small overcrowded pool that was cramped and looked dingy where you had to pay extra for anything else other than the pool, steam room and gym. There isn't even a jacuzzi!

Room Tip: Didn't stay in the hotel, only used the leisure facilities

Dear Shan886

Thank you for taking the time to write your review following your recent spa day at Chesford Grange, and I am very sorry the facilities did not meet with your expectations. Chesford Grange is a family friendly hotel and the leisure facilities are included in their break.

I hope your experience will not deter you from trying another spa in the QHotels group and if you avoid the school holidays next time you will find you have a more relaxing day.

Thanks again for your post,
Kind regards

This is a gorgeous hotel in beautiful grounds. The room was clean and tidy. The bed was soooooo comfy it was hard to get out off but it was well worth the effort for the brilliant breakfast. The staff are very polite and looked after us well. We did have a very good deal and so the value for money was outstanding. It would be worth looking around for deals before booking just for the added bonus of saving money. Highly recommended.
