“Awful experience”
Reviewed 2 March 2014

I arrived early to meet some friends in the lounge and was greeted as if I had just crawled from under a paving slab! Ordering and paying for an advanced non alcoholic drink other than a cocktail was neither easy or welcomed! The group of people arrived and an order of over £110 was placed and delivered. The man who later identified himself as the manager chose this moment to inform our group that there would be a minimum £500 for the size of our party (16 ish). He was clearly devoid of the usual people skills associated with the role and we were all gob smacked. With the drinks freshly delivered he returned to reinforce the £500 'rule' which he seemed to have plucked out of the air! Feeling uncomfortable by the manager's constant appearances the £110 worth of cocktails were rushed and not enjoyed. We all left as soon as we could and regrouped elsewhere. This was a quiet group of professional people treated very shabbily. The group also included some prominent people who he failed to recognise! The final bill included all the drinks already paid for! My feeling is that somebody else with more money to splash around wanted to book the table! In summary; dolls house like, pretentious, rude, very expensive.

Ok...first thing, most us know many hotels will give you are generic response 'Appreciate your feedback blah blah please come again and we will be amazing next time'.

Sound familiar? At the Kenilworth we give honest responses direct from the owners. We sit down with all of our staff and discuss all feedback/comments.

When we receive constructive criticism, we take it on the chin and try are hardest to improve and learn from our mistakes.

Its in our interest to constantly improve and act upon mistakes. We live and breath hospitality, i think all of our feedback reflects that.

We occasionally receive feedback like this one that truly amazes us, may even warrant a little chuckle.

We do have a minimum spend policy at the kenilworth (only at the weekend, £500) due to the fact we can only fit a small amount of people in. Any table of 15 essentially takes up a whole room. This only applies to parties over 15 people.
Guests are made aware of this when they book and 99.999999% of people either chose to except it which tbh is not a huge amount for weekend night £33ph which includes your own private room and your own bartender.

However, this reviewer did what 0.00000000000000000000.01% of people do. They book a table for 14 people and suprise suprise out of nowhere another 8 people turn up and coincidentally another 8 friends happened to be walking down kenilworth high street and accidentally walked in to their party. All this to avoid a minimum spend and have their own private party on a weekend night... *sigh*

We find the majority of our amazing loyal customers who have genuine complaints just pick up the phone and talk to us do not complain to a faceless computer screen. They allow us to rectify the situation if need be. They know we will do EVERYTHING in our power to rectify the problem. We go above and beyond because its in our interest to have happy customers.

We simply love what we do and look forward to hosting you if you come BUT please note, if you want a table for 22 there is a minimum spend of £500 and 22 people do not fit on a table of 14!! :)

My wife (of about 8 hours) and I stayed at this hotel on the evening following our wedding ceremony.

The room was comfortable and the ensuite bathroom/wet-room was superb.

The bed was superb and the room warm and quiet despite being close to the high street.

The decor was smart and the B&O television and modern coffee machine in the room were modern (a slight downside being that the mugs supplied throughout the hotel were a little too tall for the machine, I managed to get them out without spilling too much eventually but some people would have more of a problem, also the selection of tea and coffee a little limited to brakfast tea and coffee only).

The gate to the back of the hotel had swelled in the rain and it was a little difficult gaining access to the hotel from room 7 where we stayed - on a couple of occassions it required a real shove to get it open and (as said) it was raining..

Very nice hotel room, very clean, brilliant shower and TV was brilliant, hair dryer and Iron/board included. Reception takes keys so access and parking is easy. Only downside is room is a bit small and you can hear the bar downstairs, but the bed was that comfy it didnt matter. Didnt have brekkie but looked very nice. Also there is no bathroom lightswitch, its on a timer - even though I spent 20mins looking for a switch that wasnt there haha - very nice stay would deffo stay again!

Room was gorgeous- warm, cosy & tastefully decorated. Really clean & well presented.
Coffee machine & tv were a nice touch. Although on the Main Street, the hotel quietened down before it got too late - had a great night sleep.
The breakfast was great also- plenty of selection of freshly baked breads, freshly squeezed orange juice, fruits and cereals.
Excellent customer service from staff - a really enjoyable stay- wish we could have stayed longer!

Didn't stay at the hotel, Visited this bar on a Thursday night with a close friend from London who loves cocktail bars and is used to the best. We were celebrating my 30th birthday. Arrived about 9 and stayed until it closed at 12. The bar is so comfortable, decor is exquisite if you want to impress this is the place to go. The bar men recommended our first cocktail and it was reasonably priced and tasted amazing. The rest of the cocktails looked and tasted absolutely fantastic. Excellent service and one of the staff even offered to call us a taxi home. My friend from London was so impressed and said she wants to visit every time she is here. Perfect for a romantic night out or just with your girlfriends! I would definitely recommend.

Reviewed 30 December 2013

My partner and I stayed here for 2 nights the weekend before Christmas and had the most amazing time.

From the moment we arrived on the car park we were greeted and welcomed warmly, being taken straight to our room with no hassle.

We stayed in Room 3 which was the perfect mix of old fashioned and modern - it was certainly up to date and on trend, but the wooden floor, 30ft ceiling and exposed brick chimney breast just added something else. Not to mention the upstairs bathroom which just made the whole room much more intimate and cosy.

We were a little worried after reading some of the reviews on here that we would not sleep and had envisioned some sort of rave going on downstairs in the cocktail lounge. This was definitely not the case. It is an old building, it is not going to have the very best sound insulation, and yes being over the bar, you are going to be able to hear things. We heard music, the odd joke and laughter but nothing excessive. The music in the bar isn't loud, you can still hear yourself talk and it's not a particularly noisy bar. We got the impression that this isn't the sort of place that allows people to get absolutely wrecked and we admired that - it shows great respect to other customers and guests.

The bed was great - no complaints whatsoever. There were memory foam cushions but also the option of standard if you couldn't quite "take" to them. The bathroom was exceptionally clean and well equipped. There were Elemis soap, shampoo, conditioner and hand cream dispensers fixed to the wall which was a nice touch and the only people I can see not liking these are those who like to take "souvenirs" home with them. I'd never used Elemis before so didn't know what to expect, but they were lovely products. I had a little bit of an issue with the plug in our sink, it was a little temperamental and I really had to fiddle with it to pop back up again and let the water drain away. However, there was probably some user error involved with this. The room was well equipped with wifi/Ethernet cable, an ironing board and iron, and a hairdryer. There was also the option to call down to reception or make outside calls! I forgot to mention the TV, which is huge and has a good selection of channels. We had a Tassimo drinks machine in our room which was great, very easy to use and it made a lovely cuppa. Lots of sugar and milk provided which is always a bonus!

We went down to the cocktail lounge on both evenings and were catered for even though we were a little earlier than we had booked for. We both enjoyed a series of cocktails, some that weren't even on the menu but they had made especially for us. The Christmas menu was just out of this world and its a shame that it is limited to just that time of year! I have done nothing but crave a Mince Pie Mai Tai since I got home; complete with mini mince pie! My partner had a Egg Nogg Swizzle and said it was the best egg nog he has ever had. What really amazed us though was the Cherry Pie Bellinis that were sprayed with a custard aroma... We were in heaven! We weren't cocktail people before we visited, now we most definitely are.

We skipped breakfast on both mornings as we were too busy enjoying our lie-ins but when we did finally leave to check out, the continental breakfast offered should be more than enough to satisfy anyone. A massive spread of bread, cereals, fruit, muffins... Our guest handbook also said breakfast sandwiches can be arranged from the local café/bakery.

There was only one little niggle, and it is little, but the car park can get very very crowded. Staff do offer to move your car for you and did so for us which we are very appreciative of, but my partner has a company car and was a little worried that if anything did happen he would be killed by his boss! Thankfully though, all was fine, and we appreciated all the staff did for us to help us have a happy and comfortable stay.

I'd like to say many thanks to Stuart and the team for a truly awesome weekend. It exceeded our expectations totally and we hope to return shortly!

We stayed here for one night just before Christmas and we were pleasantly surprised. The room was smart and the bed was very comfortable. Our only complaint would be that the pillows were very large and very hard - synthetic rather than feather. The rain shower in the small, but well-appointed bathroom was excellent. The toiletries were all Elemis which were lovely, but are all in large bottles fixed to the wall. I have no problem with this, but think it looks better if they are kept topped up....rather than some half empty, which looks a bit cheap.
The continental breakfast was OK (the local bread was excellent) but the room where it was served was rather odd. We seemed to be sat in the small reception area with very small tables and it felt neither comfortable nor welcoming!
Overall our stay was very pleasant and we would stay there again if we return to the area.
