“REally nice hotel”
Reviewed 23 September 2010

I stayed here earlier in the year when a friends engagement party was hosted here. Rooms were really nice, a very friendly hotel and a cocktail bar attached that sells every cocktail you can think of and alot you havee never heard of.

The only thing that let it down was no cooked breakfast. Apparently they used to but some stupid health and saftey rule means they cant anymore.

Having scrutinised other hotels in the area and read all the reviews we decided on The Kenilworth for a weekend stay but unfortunately (for us) found that they were completely full. Luckily we left our details and they phoned us on the Friday to offer us Room 6 courtesy of a late cancellation. The staff couldn't have been friendlier or more attentive when we arrived and our room was perfect.....very trendy and contemporary. We ate a few doors along in the Petit Gourmand on the hotels recommendation and had a really lovely meal. The restaurant was quite busy so we would recommend booking. The hotel Cocktail Bar was busy (the hotel was full) when we returned but our room was relatively quiet and we had an undisturbed and very comfortable nights sleep. I would highly recommend the cocktails and the fabulous wet room in Room 6. All in all it was for us a really fabulous stay.

The key thing about the Kenilworth is the outstanding quality of the staff: everyone we came across was friendly, helpful and efficient - the full combination is not very common in the UK. Beyond that, the rooms are OK, nicely designed but a bit on the small side, as is often the case with "boutique" hotels. Apart from there being no shaver point in the bathroom, they were all adequately equipped. Internet is free (but not tested on this visit). Sound insulation is good – and necessary because one side is on the main road and several of the rooms are above the bar. Although the latter was full until after midnight, we didn't experience any disturbance on our short visit which included a Saturday night (but more sensitive types might). Continental breakfast was included in the price and was fine, especially as we had it in the pleasant courtyard garden. A range of newspapers was also provided. There were no tea and coffee-making facilities in the room (for practical reasons, as the hotel explained) but a call to reception was enough to have a fresh pot delivered at short notice (also at 8 am on a Sunday morning). If you like that sort of thing the bar offers a tremendous range of cocktails, for which it has won several prizes. A good cost-performance ratio completes the picture. The hotel is not perfect but provides excellent value for money. We would go again.

We stayed one night at The Kenilworth, and it more than lived up to expectations. The website is enticing and our room was indeed very nice. The outside bar feels like a Mediterranean getaway (we were lucky to have a hot night) , with a well thought-through planting scheme and thatched roof bar with patio heaters. The cocktails were very good - mine was on their specials list and had mango and honey! The indoor bar is informal and breakfast the next morning was very pleasant with a reasonable continental breakfast, newspapers and background jazz.
Service was very friendly, and it is well situated for nearby restaurants. We ate at Le Petit Gourmand a few doors down, which was very good.
Overall a lovely little find and I would highly recommend it.

I stayed at the Kenilworth when in the area for work and had been attracted by the website and the specifications outlined for the rooms. On arrival, was impressed by the service from the barman and really liked the decor and was immediately impressed by the bathroom in my room (room 5). It was one of the hot weeks in May and there was an issue with the heat in the bar and room, but we enjoyed a cocktail outside in the garden which was wonderful - felt like we were on holiday rather than in on a business trip. The outside bar is really lovely, quite a special spot.
There were some areas for improvement however, in the hotel. The room was quite small - the desk was too small to work, there was insufficient hanging space for 3 days worth of work clothes and there were no drawers as a substitute, so clothes had to stay in my suitcase over the week. There were specialist pillows in the rooms which were extremely uncomfortable, and no alternatives available in the room, so I had trouble sleeping, also the room was really light due to a sky light, so woke earlier than usual. The greatest issue however was the noise, I could hear the person in the next room talking and there was a lot of noise from the bar and people walking past the room.
Also found the breakfast to be a bit limited and the owners did not offer any of the breakfast menu items, and we had to ask for tea. Didn't feel like a very warm morning welcome.
Would recommend the hotel if it has competitive prices, but suspect there are better options in the area.
