From a choice of 3 Indian restaurants we opted for Coconut Lagoon due it award winning reputation and also that it served up Dosa's (South Indian dish). Upon arrival we were shown to our table by the waitress, who was helpful but it was evident she was rushed off her feet. Although she managed to seem cheerful, the other waitress had a constant grim look on her face and not once smiled at us, she was not very welcoming throughout the evening. In terms of customer service, the waitress dealing with the restaurant side had a tough evening in terms of dealing with customers not happy (due to food arriving very late), however we felt that she was not well versed in terms of the menu, which doesn't help when you have a query about the food.
In terms of the food, we were very disappointed as it did not represent the authentic Indian taste that you would expect - some examples:
1. We ordered "prantha's", these were frozen and heated up, our expectation was that they would have been cooked from fresh, seeing that we were paying £2.50 each. We queried this with the waitress who spoke to the chef and confirmed our thoughts. In fairness they did not charge us for that.
2. The chickpeas were bone dry, no sauce and it was evident they were straight out of a tin and not cooked fresh. We asked them to make it with more sauce, what we got back was chickpeas in tin tomato sauce, which the kids did their best to finish. In fairness, again the restaurant didn't charge us for this.
I don't mind paying "top" money when it comes to food, but this restaurant does not serve true authentic Indian food, certainly from the selection we ordered, which did include a chicken starter too. We also over-heard there was only one chef, again it doesn't give front of house a chance to deliver that experience. We will not be visiting this restaurant again.
