“Travelodge moves up in the world.”
Reviewed 5 August 2013

At last we found a Travelodge that was clean, modern and comfortable. Gone are the 2inch pillows, the stained duvet, dripping taps and old fashioned TV. The Travelodge Stratford on Avon is a really nice hotel. The staff were friendly and professional. The Cafe Bar is an excellent addition with a fabulous breakfast at a very reasonable price. The only two things we found against the hotel were it is very stuffy on a hot evening and the doors slam shut with a loud bang. Not very good when guests return to their room late at night.
All in all a marked improvement on some other hotels and is recommended for you to try.

Good clean comfortable place to stay, breakfast was excellent value for money as you could get a child's one for free and the child age was up to 16 which makes a pleasant change compared to lots of other hotels

I have stayed in Travelodges before and therefore know what to expect. It's a 2 star hotel and you get what you would expect within that rating. Therefore my review has nothing to do with the room size, bed or bathroom - all were fine. But I would never stay here again for one serious and horrific reason - the heat and lack of ventilation.

I was staying on the first floor and my room was unbearable. I woke several times each night and had to stand by the window because a) I was so hot and b) there was such a lack of oxygen in the room. I had to wet myself with a cool towel in order to try and lower my body temperature. It was the worst, most uncomfortable feeling I had ever experienced. And it was NOT during a heatwave. The max temperature that day in Stratford was 28/29 degrees and it was cold at nighttime. There is a serious problem with air circulation in this hotel.

I was told by the manager (and saw myself) that guests were having to be moved from the 3rd floor as it was even worse up there. The manager also told me that there was a problem with heat in the hotel because it has a flat roof (and a lot of glass) so there is no where for the heat to escape to. I would say that the problem is worse than this and actually it has been so poorly designed and built that air/heat cannot escape from the hotel. To make matters worse you cannot open the windows more than about 5 inches for safety reasons - because so many people jump out the windows.

I was also told that fans were supplied from head office but only available to guests on the 3rd floor. Pretty unbelievable considering how much the rest of the hotel are suffering.

It just isn't worth staying here as it is so unbearable - go somewhere else.

We spent two nights at this location and although the staff were very friendly, the Travel Lodge itself left a bit to be desired. The rooms were very hot, no air conditioning and only a limited number of fans, we failed. Bathroom was small and the room basic, although the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was extra and although it was as much as you wanted, the choices were limited, the scrambled eggs cool and the coffee, from a vending machine left a lot to be desired.
Staff were hard pushed to keep up with the number of people eating on Sunday morning. The bar has limited sales and only a draught larger and bottled alcohol to offer. It is a brisk 25 minute walk into town. There are nearer places such as a Premier inn, as we found out walking in. If you want basic then it is fine, otherwise there are better places around.

Room Tip: If it is warm weather, the lower you are the better and in any event ask for a fan, you may have bet...

I read the reviews on here before booking. I wanted to know in advance if the car-parking is ample and what's close-by. So if you're like me, and know a travelodge is a travelodge, then I can tell you - the car-park is a really good size. Stratford-upon-Avon seemed very busy today (but I've never been before) and yet there was ample parking.
Next to the travelodge is an aldi and a dominos. Across the road is tesco and 2 mins away is a Greggs, subway, chippy, m+s food, sports direct and a boots. Probably more but that's all I can remember.
We walked into town the way we directed (a straight road!) and it took just under 15 minutes. Not sure if there's a scenic back route along the canal.
The breakfast (as a lot of people on here seem to be commenting negatively about it) in my opinion was mostly good. Bacon was a little undercooked today but that's my only complaint.

We stayed in the above travellodge for two nights at the end ofJuly. Free car park bit enough, reception staff pleasant, room a bit on the small side, clean with a nice sized bed, tea making facilities. The bathroom and shower plenty bit enough and clean.Did not have food, however,it looked nice enough and the all you can eat brekkie was £7.65 I think, and a decent evening meal menu. About a 15/20 minute stroll into the centre of Stratford, opposite the hotel was a shopping mall with shops and various food outlets. My biggest gripe was the heat in the room, ground floor so the window only opened about 6 inches(security),and we were NEVER told about the fans in reception. We stayed there as the price was very good for the end of July, would stay there again, however , the stroll into town a few times a day takes its toll, and would go in the winter??.

Dear dozydai, we are really pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay. It is always really nice to receive positive feedback. We can confirm that because not all of our hotels have air conditioning, we do supply a number of fans at reception for guests to use which are available upon request from our customers on a first come first serve basis.
