We eagerly anticipated our stay in this hotel. However despite paying a steep £255 a night the room was inadequate. Opening the door from the inside required some ingenuity.
There was not enough room for two chairs to be next to the table without restricting access to the wardrobe. The hotel takes advantage of the location to overcharge. Be warned!

Arrived in foul weather - to be met in the car park by a man with an umbrella, a good start. Easy check-in and help with luggage - which was good, as we were on several levels en route to room. We did not choose one of the most expensive rooms available at the Arden but one of their in-house deals - which for us was better than via an agency. The room was a cut above that found at most 4* star hotels and my request for a quiet room was fulfilled. The only noise we noticed was due to a too powerful fire door closing mechanism somewhere nearby and that is 'nit-picking'. There is a lot to be said for smaller 4* hotels - you may not get a spa but you receive personal service.
Due to a late lunch on day of arrival, we did not have the afternoon tea but it looked rather good.
We took a deal that included the evening meal and whilst my wife - a fish lover - would have liked a wider choice, it was still excellent value for Stratford and far better than braving the weather again. We like our wine and the list is an interesting combination of usual and unusual but you can be safe in quality with the unusual. Cabernet Sauvignon from India actually rather drinkable and something to tell your friends about.
Breakfasts are good - with a choice to please everybody from the buffet or cooked to order, so my wife had her fish at breakfast time.
Only regret - we could not stay longer.

Room Tip: Talk to the very helpful receptionists - we thus avoided being either on the side road that also giv...

We chose to stay at the Arden Hotel once we had booked our tickets for two performances at the RSC as a result of the reviews on Tripadvisor. We were not disappointed. Finding the hotel was easy and there is a large car park accessible via Chapel Lane. We received a very warm reception and were given a large room overlooking Chapel Lane. The room was excellent with a very large bathroom and was very quiet. We ate in the restaurant on both nights - their pre-theatre meals starting at 5pm. The service was fast and efficient leaving us plenty of time to stroll across the road to the theatre. Apart from the theatre the Arden's location is very convenient for shopping and seeing the various Shakespeare sights in the town. Highly recommended.

Located in a picturesque position directly across from the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and the river Avon, the Arden is a great place to hold a celebration. To celebrate our silver wedding anniversary we had a luncheon function for family and friends, consisting of pre-lunch drinks in the private Club Bar followed by a 3 course lunch in the hotel's Brooke Suite. The planning leading up to the event was very efficient with all our requests being met with a positive response. On the day everything ran very smoothly and efficiently. The Brooke Suite had been set up very attractively, the food was excellent, and the level of service received from all staff at the hotel was attentive without being over-bearing. Both ourselves and our guests thoroughly enjoyed the day. We heartily recommend the Arden as a venue for celebrating an occasion.

This is a cut above the more traditional hotels in Stratford-on-Avon. A location behind the RSC cannot be faulted - you could leave your dinner table 5 mins before curtain time and still catch the show! Comfortable modern room with large bathroom, and well located for shopping & sightseeing. Their one night package including best theatre seats is well worth it, as you can have a good quality pre theatre meal of 2 courses and take your desert after the show in the lounge in an unhurried fashion. It would be good if they also offered a two night package for those wishing to extend their stay.

We stayed at the Arden for 2 nights (27-29th Sep). The hotel is in a superb location (opposite the RSC) and the staff are very efficient. We stayed in the Monkey Puzzle room which was beautifully furnished and really well equipped. We ate in the hotel restaurant on the Friday and the food was made to a great standard and the staff were excellent. Both mornings the breakfasts were of a high standard.
Unfortunately on the Saturday afternoon we found that we had no hot water. A call to reception and a staff member was with us immediately. The water came out hot but reverted back to being lukewarm. We were unable to shower later that night due to the water being cold. Again we had the same problem on the Sunday morning and the water was freezing.
The Monkey Puzzle room is situated above the restaurant which on the Saturday was being used as a function room for a wedding. The disco didn't finish until midnight so we couldn't go to sleep until then. We then got woken up by the staff putting the room back together for breakfast the next morning. It was clear that we were not members of the wedding party so why we were given a room directly above it is beyond me.
We mentioned again the water on checkout and the receptionist took £50 off our bill without any argument. A kind gesture but I would have rather have been able to shower!
All in all, a nice hotel in a great location let down by faulty plumbing. Also, if you book a room, it would be worth checking with them to see if there is a function on and request a room at the rear.

Room Tip: Get one as far away from the restaurant if there is a function on

Located straight across the road from the RSC this is the ideal place to stay for those attending the theatre. Free parking and wi-fi are included with the former particularly welcome in this regulated town. Rooms are spacious and well appointed. The bathroom has both walk-in shower bad large bath with excellent amenities. Coffee/tea/chocolate making facilities are in the room together with fresh milk in the fridge. Breakfasts are buffet style with hot dishes brought to the table by attentive staff.

Reception staff are welcoming and professional. We will return for the 2014 season
