What an amazing hotel. From the minute you walk through the door the staff take excellent care without being overbearing.

We had lots of plans to eat out, see Stratford and generally be tourists but as soon as we saw the room we were hooked! Room 3 is an absolute star, with a roll top bath, extra kingsize bed, luxury goodies...

We ate in the restaurant downstairs both nights and the food is stunning. Champage hour on Friday was fantastic but very busy so book a table for dinner before you arrive!

We vow to go back every year, it's on the expensive side but well worth it!

a good review on official stratford tourism site led to Church St Townhouse, with online booking easily and friendly organised. Therefore had High expectations.
Absolutely brilliant position for our weekend in the town as tourists, room 7 with great view over church and school.
Top quality service throughout- although time prevented exploring the bar and restaurant except for breakfast. Was always popular and busy in evening.
Rooms are stylishly decorated, well furnished, spacious, amazing bed! and complimentary gifts (drink, sweets, toilettries) are better and more appreciated than most places I've ever stayed before.
Staff attentive and helpful. Unique and comfortable- in standard of luxury and comfort and personal service much better than a generic large 5 star hotel, with the cosy friendliness of a guest house.
Really feel that the pleasure and joy from staying here made the enjoyment of the weekend in Stratford even greater.
oh, car parking discount good, and breakfast was good enough so we did not eat until dinner.
a little bit of night street noise and I didn't hear the church bells on the hour (30meters away!)
Fab place. book early.

We found this hotel on the Mr and Mrs Smith website and spent one night there. The hotel were accommodating and flexible when we made the booking and, when I rang a bit earlier in the week to ask for a restaurant recommendation, gave several recommendations. The one we chose was excellent. The staff are all extremely helpful and the room itself was a good size, well appointed with nice touches such as a decanter of port. The bar is fantastic - we spent a couple of peaceful hours there in the afternoon and listened to some very good live piano music. When we returned for an after dinner drink much later in the evening, it had become very lively. The sound proofing is excellent - we could not hear any noise from the bar at all in our bedroom. We had a lovely breakfast the next morning. The hotel is centrally located and while they don't have on site parking, they do let you know where to park and you get a prefential rate in the car park. We felt that the hotel was reasonably priced - an excellent choice for a mid range stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

The previous reviews must come from the one off travellers. As someone who has frequented the Townhouse since it opened the changes in service are slightly disappointing and the presence of the owners has subsided to a point of invisibility. Yes, it is the most classy of venues in Stratford but that is not really a title hotly competed for. When it opened there was table service even for drinkers, this now seems to be discretionary. Anyone in hospitality knows that the key to returning custom is achieving consistency. As nice as the bar area is it is far too small and you cant really pop in on a Friday or Saturday night and get a seat. In fact around the bar there is only seating for 16. Some of these are bar stools which should be removed on busy nights. They should look to control the numbers in the bar at the weekend so that those in there can enjoy the ambience of a bar and strain of a rugby scrum. The detail is really where the Townhouse falters. The pictures in the 'library' are cheap prints in cheap frames, the leopard print furniture is so last year and shows limited creativity and uniqueness, the fixtures in the bathrooms are all plastic...and locals are forgotten should a private party wish to book at the weekends. Need we remind the owners that importance of keeping the bread and butter customers the happiest. The best bar in Stratford without a doubt but not yet worthy of the praise it could rightfully deserve. I call on the owners to review and to make their presence known once more as their staff do take their feet of the accelerator in their absence.

You cant help but fall in love here. Youre greated by the most beautiful warm smile and nothing is too much. The words adorable, lush, sophisticated, marvelous, spring to mind. Anyway, on to the hotel, not bad at all really but to be quite honest i've already fallen in love so it could be some grotty b & b and i'd still love it... Or am i talking about curly wirly :-)

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome. This is a small family run boutique hotel, most fitting for "Mr & Mrs Smith". The room was furnished with french style furniture and we had a beautiful roll-top bath in the room, along with a separate bathroom with shower. The complimentary decanter of port was also a lovely touch. We ate in the restaurant which I would have no doubts about recommending, but suggest you book. The restaurant/bar area open to non-residents had a hustle/bustle feel. The food was fabulous along with the service. Discounted parking provided in NCP secure park. I would definitely stay here again, its a true gem in the heart of a historic English town.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
This recently refurbished boutique hotel is housed in a 400 year old listed building in the heart of Stratford upon Avon. Located opposite Shakespeare's school, among the ancient half-timbered buildings the town is famous for and only 2 minute's walk to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. This is THE place for a pre-theatre supper - local pianists play at 5.30pm daily and the atmosphere is great. The 12 funky en-suite bedrooms vary in size, cost and view. Try for a room at the front of the building for the perfect view. Great food is served all day, through till 10pm in this buzzy neighbourhood bistro with Afternoon Tea a particular favorite. Champagne Happy Hour is every Friday at 5pm and the bar is packed with a great, upmarket local crowd. The staff make the place and nothing is too much trouble. ... more   less
