I can't believe the number of reviewers on here saying it's excellent! The Church street Townhouse website looks great but does not match the reality.

"Aqua di Parma toiletries" - NO Arran Aromatics.
NO telephones in the rooms!
NO robes in the bathroom,
NO hot water after 11pm!!!
NO staff on reception after 11.30pm - yet people are raving about port and biscuits in the room?!!!
Average food and disinterested staff - I was promised the Manager "would get back to me in the morning - still waiting!!!

The only plus is the location. I wouldn't recommend anyone stay here. Unless you like 2/3 star B&B's.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else if you can

- Best room we've had during our whole UK tour! Stunning decor!
- The most awesome biscuit selection in the room. Port added a nice touch.
- Beautiful bathroom with nice bath and shower. Candles with matches by the bath is a really
nice idea.
- Loved the purple carpets :)
- Nice breakfast.

Will definately go again!

I was torn between 3 and 4 stars for the hotel as it has a lot to recommend it. However there were a number of areas in which the hotel disappointed.
The positives were:
Great location,
Large room,
Good bathroom ( it would however have been preferable to have had a bath as well as a shower. I know some rooms do have baths but at the top price of £180 a night I had hoped ours would have had one.)
Lovely refreshments and toiletries in the room,
friendly enthusiastic staff.
The negatives were:
Room 10 overlooks the extractor fan for the kitchen. This means that the drone from the fan continues from first thing in the morning till the kitchen closes late at night. It is loud and as there is no double glazing even closing the windows doesn't help.
At breakfast we were given a choice of either a cooked breakfast or cereal/yogurt etc. It would have been nice to have had a little yogurt as well as a cooked breakfast.
We were just asked if we wanted juice and given orange juice - no choice even though the menu listed several different juices. The waitress at breakfast was a little off hand.
The rooms are somewhat gloomy and the bedside lights not really effective enough for reading.
The latter issues were realtively minor but it was the noise of the extractor fan that made me feel only able to give 3 stars.
I would go but avoid Room 10 or other rooms close to the kitchen,

We stayed here for the weekend for our Wedding Anniversary and had the most wonderful time. Arrived during Champagne Happy Hour on the Friday, got shown straight up to our room dumped our bags and headed straight back down to the bar. Can't remember our room number but it was a big one at the front, just gorgeous. Large bed, beautifully decorated & spotlessly clean. Lots of little touches that make it special, handmade biscuits, small carafe of port, hair dryer & straighteners, fridge, bottle of mile & water, & lovely toiletries. Bathroom was immaculate & the shower was fab. The bar downstairs was packed and buzzing with life. Hubby & I had a bottle of the house champagne, listened to the pianist and asked one of the barstaf if there was a table in their restaurant & although they were busy that evening they fitted us in. Both our meals were delicious including breakfast. The restuarant is small but lovely & all the staff are really friendly & very professional. We got the train, had a small walk from the station so didn't have to bother with parking. Location in town is perfect. Can't wait to stay here again.

We stayed at the Townhouse weekend of 29th/30th October 2011 and what a joyful experience. The hotel is wonderfully situated and really beautifully appointed. We stayed in room 9 - bathroom a little small but otherwise incredibly comfortable. I love how they include all the little treats in the room price - handmade shortbread, mini decanter of port, fresh milk in the little fridge, water etc - none of that constant nickel & dime-ing you get with large hotel chains. Also the free hotel cotton shopping bags are a really nice touch. Toiletries all a good size and by Acqua di Parma, straighteners provided, free wifi... really nothing missing. Breakfast was great but best of all are the staff - they are lovely, really helpful and truly seem to love working there - indeed one of them told me as much in so many words! Fabulous experience - will definitely return
