When we arrived at The Church Street Townhouse we had to find someone to check us in but to be fair it was Sunday lunchtime when we arrived. The person who checked us in was very friendly and helpful. She showed us to our room and helped carry our clobber and very kindly let us store our buggy in a spare bedroom on the ground floor.
We stayed in room 4 which is a 'simple room'. It is positioned at the back of the building over the kitchens which meant it was very hot but we were provided with a large floor standing fan and the option to move up a floor was given but as we had a baby and a lot of stuff we decided to stick with room 4. The other downside was that it was above the back yard where the bins are kept and twice the bottle bin being emptied made us jump ( it's very loud!). We could also hear staff chatting quite clearly. We decided to live with the heat and keep the window closed. Apart from that the room is really spacious and comfortable. The bathroom is located down a little (private) corridor which gave it the feeling more of a suite than just an ensuit bedroom. There are nice little touches in the room - a little selectin of biscuits, a little decanter of port and a mini bottle of fresh milk for tea.
The staff are all really friendly and the the place has a lovely atmosphere. The food was good - the chocolate brownie was excellent! Breakfast was good although I did feel that a little bit of garnish would have finished the eggs benedict off nicely...although it was tasty it looked a bit plain and rushed. My husband really enjoyed his full English.
All in all we really enjoyed our stay at The Church Street Townhouse and would definitely recommend it to friends and family. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the location is great and food is good.
