“Stunning”

Everything about this hotel was perfect. We'd asked for a particular room, after seeing it online, and got it. There was complimentary champagne and port in the room along with chocolates. The staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for us.

The room itself was better than we'd imagined. Beautiful decor, sumptious bed and soft furnishings. Everything provided right down to hair straighteners!!

The breakfast was delicious and you can watch it being cooked so you know it's all fresh.

We'd definitely stay here again and if you're looking for somewhere a little quirky for a romantic getaway, you can't go wrong with this hotel.

We stayed here in May in a mid priced room.

What a fabulous quirky hotel.

The room was beautifully decorated, the bed was very comfortable.

The food in the restaurant was gorgeous too.

If you are visiting Stratford Upon Avon, stay here.

It's location is perfect for everything, and you will not be dissapointed with anything.

This is a small boutique hotel/B&B smack bang in the centre of Stratford-upon-Avon, and appeared to be the centre of all the fun!

It truely is a fantastic place to soak up this great town's atmosphere. We were there at 5pm on Friday night - the start of the 'Champagne Happy Hour' and gladly joined in. Lots of locals, with fantastic ambiance. We also had dinner on Saturday night - everytime we went to the bar/restaurant it was buzzing.

I would start by saying this is not a traditional 'B&B'. It's a chic boutique hotel with a restaurant/bar attached. We booked through Mr & Mrs Smith and it's exactly has described,

The room was on the third floor and beautifully decorated out. Some nice little touches - free wifi, a small bottle of port and shortbread, and my favourite - TeaPigs tea! It was very, very cosy. All very clean and tidy, and the furnishings were of a high quality. The bed was giant for such a small room - a super king size. The room also came with an iron, ironing board, hair dryer and even hair straightners (wasn't too sure about using used straightners but if that's your thing....)

Bathrooms are very glamorous - ours didn't have a roll-top bath but a huge shower with waterfall head, and was larger than average. Nice big fluffy towels and nice toiletries.

Breakfast is included in the rate and was fantastic - good quality food and a good menu to choose from. They also have a selection of newspapers on offer if you want a more 'relaxed' approach at the start of the day.

The staff here are fabulous - it's the only word I can think of to describe them. They're all very smiley, happy people who are willing to help out with anything they can. They all seem to enjoy working at the hotel and it really showed. Most came from the local area and seemed incredibly knowledgable.

In regards to location it's perfect, a taxi from the station cost us £4, but is totally walkable if you're not lazy like me. RSC, The Avon, and Shakespeares home are all within 5(ish) minutes walk and you can get to Anne Hathaways in around 20ish minutes. All the bars and restaurants are also very close, some less then 2 minutes away, including the oldest pub in S-u-A.

This place is fabulous - it's got the wow factor but for missed on a few areas - which is why I didn't quite give it 5 bolts...

But please note, these are all very minimum and more just niggles and shouldn't impact on your decision to book here.

- No phones in the room. In the guest book it says if we need anything go down to reception and they'll be happy to help. What they forget is that we were 3 floors up - it'd have been nice just to have rung up rather than having to head downstairs and wait for ages.

- There's a smoking area outside the back of the hotel/restaurant/bar - visitors need to go through the stairway of the hotel area to enter this area, and I often found the area stunk of cigarette smoke. Not paricuarly pleasant.

- our room was particularly small (although very comfortable)

-the reception desk is not manned 100% of the time and we had to wait a good 10 minutes before we could check in. Other times waited a while to get our key or to speak to reception, which got a wee bit frustrating at times.

But this wouldn't deter me from returning. It really is a gem - and i'd recommend it to all family and friends. Next time however, i'd treat myself to one of the rooms with the baths....they really did look DIVINE.

Room Tip: - The top floor rooms are the quietest - but are up three floors (and no lift) but you are then away...

When we arrived at The Church Street Townhouse we had to find someone to check us in but to be fair it was Sunday lunchtime when we arrived. The person who checked us in was very friendly and helpful. She showed us to our room and helped carry our clobber and very kindly let us store our buggy in a spare bedroom on the ground floor.

We stayed in room 4 which is a 'simple room'. It is positioned at the back of the building over the kitchens which meant it was very hot but we were provided with a large floor standing fan and the option to move up a floor was given but as we had a baby and a lot of stuff we decided to stick with room 4. The other downside was that it was above the back yard where the bins are kept and twice the bottle bin being emptied made us jump ( it's very loud!). We could also hear staff chatting quite clearly. We decided to live with the heat and keep the window closed. Apart from that the room is really spacious and comfortable. The bathroom is located down a little (private) corridor which gave it the feeling more of a suite than just an ensuit bedroom. There are nice little touches in the room - a little selectin of biscuits, a little decanter of port and a mini bottle of fresh milk for tea.

The staff are all really friendly and the the place has a lovely atmosphere. The food was good - the chocolate brownie was excellent! Breakfast was good although I did feel that a little bit of garnish would have finished the eggs benedict off nicely...although it was tasty it looked a bit plain and rushed. My husband really enjoyed his full English.

All in all we really enjoyed our stay at The Church Street Townhouse and would definitely recommend it to friends and family. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the location is great and food is good.

This independently owned boutique hotel is housed in a 400 year old listed building in the heart of Stratford upon Avon. Located opposite Shakespeare's school, among the ancient half-timbered buildings the town is famous for and only 2 minute's walk to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. This is THE place for a pre-theatre supper - local pianists play at 5.30pm daily and the atmosphere is great. The 12 funky en-suite bedrooms vary in size, cost and view. Try for a room at the front of the building for the perfect view. Great food is served all day, through till 10pm in this buzzy neighbourhood bistro with Afternoon Tea a particular favourite. Champagne Happy Hour is every Friday at 5pm and the bar is packed with a great, upmarket local crowd. The staff make the place and nothing is too much trouble. ... more   less
