“Great food and service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 April 2013

Our group returned here for a dinner in the library enjoying their fixed price table d'hote group menu-a choice of 4 starters, 6 main, 5 pudds and a delicious cheese platter.
Good house wine, first class food and friendly service-top notch.
Highly recommended with 5 big stars for their every-so efficient front desk and administration-everything we asked for was quickly agreed and confirmed the same day.
Whoever is responsible for staff recruitment and training should run the Civil Service !!

Stayed for three nights in April 2013. Stayed in Bedroom 3 (the one in the main photo). The staff were incredibly nice, knowledgeable of the local area and always willing to help out with any problems. The restaurant and bar downstairs are brilliant and the restaurant is well-worth a reservation.
Slight downside is there is no on-site parking, but there is a discounted parking about 5 minutes round the corner.
It's worth mentioning that the hotel is probably better suited to young couples who enjoy a little noise. As the rooms are above the bar there is a little bit of noise, and I wouldn't take a family there. Would definitely recommend to anyone seeking a getaway to Stratford for a long weekend

Room Tip: Probably advise against Bedroom 1 as it's on the ground floor directly next to the bar. Suspect...

My Wife and I stayed for two nights in February to celibrate my 50th birthday. As soon as we set foot in the Hotel we were warmly greeted and helped with our luggage to our room.
The rooms are very well appointed and have nice little touches like shortbread and a small decanter of port free of charge.
The food in the bar and dining room was very well cooked and presented.
We will definately be visiting again.

Had a fantastic stay at this lovely small hotel. From the moment we pulled up outside to leaving the next day we were treated like family.

Huge bed, huge bathroom with great products, fantastic, 10 out of 10..

Too many little extras in the room to mention but the finishing touch of port and cookies was the icing on the cake.

Fantastic staff, young, British and very keen to look after you.

Had a wonderful evening meal in the restaurant and breakfast was terrific.

Super location near to shops, bars, the gorgeous River Avon and RSC Theatre are just a short stroll away.

Felt thoroughly spoilt after 24 hours in this sumptuous hotel. Will definitely return.

Room Tip: Rain shower or tub? You need to specify.

A nicely decorated hotel which is ideal for a stop over in Stratford-upon-Avon.

We would definitely stop there again if we're passing through in the future.

Breakfast was very tasty with a good choice.

The bar on arrival also looked very busy and buzzy.

Overall a good atmosphere.

I took the kids for a 2 day trip to Stratford-upon-Avon visiting the various Shakespeare homes.
We booked the Church Street Townhouse because of its central location.

The hotel does not offer interconnecting rooms, so we were in 2 rooms next to each other which worked out well. The rooms were very nice and clean, great amenities. We were only at the hotel for breakfast and then in the afternoon. If you were planning on spending a lot of time at the hotel then perhaps the rooms will start to feel very small, especially with kids. Breakfast was included, very simple, but delicious. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We ate dinner at the hotel one night, probably a bit too adventurous for my picky eaters, though highly recommend eating there, the food was delicious. At 5:30-6:30pm every night, there is a local music student who plays piano at the bar. The bar does get quite busy and lively. We stayed mid week, I imagine that the hotel gets quite loud Thursday onwards so keep that in mind. We did hear music in our rooms last night, but we travel with a sound machine app on our iphones so we turned that on and it drowned out a lot of the sound. Beds are ok- linen is lovely, but a bit too soft for my taste (I am fussy over beds). The windows are not double glazed so we heard the garbage truck at 6:30am picking up the garbage along the streets. We could also hear the door to the restaurant open and close throughout the evening. These are all little things, but something to be aware of. I am happy we stayed at the Church Street Townhouse. Would stay there again.

Room Tip: Our travel party consisted of 1 adult and 3 children. When booking the hotel kindly re-organized som...

Lovely hotel: decor, staff, location all good.

Things preventing a 5 star review:

Bed beyond soft (bad back next day :(
My main course liver was really unedible (lots if grisle) It was sent back and I lost my appetite. Was offered a coffee as recompense (main course = value of a coffee?) then bill arrived with nothing removed. When I politely asked them to remove the main course they did. Pudding was gorgeous tho!

Our door had a massive 2 inch gap at the bottom... And bearing in mind the bed was pretty close to the door there was lots of noise from hallway which kept us up. It's a very old property with sloping floors/ceiling so no doubt difficult to standardise doors etc but this (plus screaming baby in the next room half the night) meant we were pretty grumpy the next day (so much for escaping our own kids that night!)

Bar etc... Super! Great wine list
Location = perfect

This recently refurbished boutique hotel is housed in a 400 year old listed building in the heart of Stratford upon Avon. Located opposite Shakespeare's school, among the ancient half-timbered buildings the town is famous for and only 2 minute's walk to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. This is THE place for a pre-theatre supper - local pianists play at 5.30pm daily and the atmosphere is great. The 12 funky en-suite bedrooms vary in size, cost and view. Try for a room at the front of the building for the perfect view. Great food is served all day, through till 10pm in this buzzy neighbourhood bistro with Afternoon Tea a particular favorite. Champagne Happy Hour is every Friday at 5pm and the bar is packed with a great, upmarket local crowd. The staff make the place and nothing is too much trouble. ... more   less
