“Fantastic Dinner Party”
Reviewed 23 April 2014

After looking at many so called “luxury” hotels for a dinner party to celebrate mine and my daughter’s birthdays, I came across the Church Street Townhouse and instantly knew this would be the place for us. What a fabulous place! It has a great atmosphere, busy but chilled, and we received superb service. The staff could not have been more helpful, from the moment of booking to the dinner itself. The 3 course meal chosen from the set menu was delicious, well presented, and appreciated by all my guests. We stayed overnight in Bedrooms 6 and 7, which were at the front. The rooms were quite spacious and the beds were large and very comfy. A good night’s sleep was had by all. Breakfast the next morning was also well organised. A table had been reserved for myself and my guests who had stayed over. The service once again was very good. Special thanks to Tom and Natalie for all their help. We hope to visit again soon.

A hard to find niche in Stratford on Avon .Offering all you would ever want as a traveller or as a local . Possibly the best staff I have encountered in a long time and very efficiently run by David the Scottish manager, hence the great single malts on offer in the bar. Champagne night every Friday 5.30 - 6.30 pm at £20 per bottle, with a live pianist entertaining you most evenings for a relaxing hour. The Town House has a top quality Lunch/Dinner menu in the restaurant which even includes traditional fresh fish and chips offering small or large size portions, I am a resident in Stratford on Avon and find this place is a very special top quality run establishment suiting everyone's taste.
Should really keep it a secret !!!! but I have to give credit where credit is due. So thank you David and all who work at The Church Street Town House for making this such a special place.

Located opposite the grammar school, this has to be one of the handiest B&Bs for accessing the town centre. Parking is at a premium but there's an arrangement with the NCP multi storey round the corner which works well. The building and decor are quirkily pleasant, our room was lovely, generously sized and the ensuite great, with tea and coffee making facilities, an iron and ironing board, TV, safe, fridge with milk, water and champagne and even hair straighteners - but no hair drier - 3 trips to reception to get one. (No phone in room to ring down so lots of stairs). Service was variable, the receptionist was great but in the bar and restaurant they were pleasantly inefficient. The food was ok - fish and chips - small, over battered fish with french fries, overpriced for what it was. Breakfast was fine. Overall, a comfortable, pleasant and convenient place to stay that relies on location and quirkyness rather than consistent quality.

My boyfriend was given a voucher for the Mr & Mrs Smith hotel boutique & we decided to have a little break away in Stratford - and we found this lovely hotel on their website. Yes, it was a little more expensive than we'd normally pay, but it was completely worth the cost. The staff were all welcoming, polite and helpful and the room was tastefully decorated. We arrived in the room to find a small decanter of port, a selection of mini shortbreads and half a bottle of champagne in our fridge. We also had 2 chilled bottles of water and a mini bottle of milk for tea/ coffee. I loved the touches of the posh graffiti wooden letters & numbers on the walls and the giant key that the bedroom keys are kept on. We had a drink in the bar before dinner and listened to a wonderful pianist; such a lovely atmosphere. We ate breakfast in the morning which was just YUMMY. It is located very close to the city centre and the theatre. I have already recommended this lovely little hotel to friends and I wish I could go back there right now! Thank you :)

This was a really, really nice hotel. We stayed in Room3, which was a beautiful double room with a roll-top bath in the room as well as ensuite shower facilities. Even though it was on the first floor,we couldn't hear any noise from the bar downstairs. Decor was shabby-chic Georgian/Victorianand quite classy, and little touches such as complementary port/nibbles/champagne/tea making facilities with fresh milk really helped. Staff were brilliant - friendly, helpful and very customer centric.Breakfast was included and was exceptionally good (see my review on the restaurant, it was a similar standard). I felt the room was quite pricey, however, but my wife argues to the contrary: you will need to bethe judge of that. Very few niggles other than the useless wi-fi, although for the price my wife said she expected (for example) a few more luxurious touches such as dressing gowns. But overall a very nice experience (especially compared to the previous night) and would highly recommend.

It was such a treat to stay in such a lovely hotel. Perfect for a romantic weekend or a family trip. We can't wait to go back. Go now, it will not disappoint!

Had a lovely stay. Lovely decor throughout. Bar very nice, had breakfast in restaurant which was very good. Room abit disappointingly small , a tray for making tea etc in the room , but unable to make use of it as really nowhere to 'work' from !!. Quite pricey for size, quite a shame really as this the only real negative.

Room Tip: Room 11 too small

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
This recently refurbished boutique hotel is housed in a 400 year old listed building in the heart of Stratford upon Avon. Located opposite Shakespeare's school, among the ancient half-timbered buildings the town is famous for and only 2 minute's walk to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. This is THE place for a pre-theatre supper - local pianists play at 5.30pm daily and the atmosphere is great. The 12 funky en-suite bedrooms vary in size, cost and view. Try for a room at the front of the building for the perfect view. Great food is served all day, through till 10pm in this buzzy neighbourhood bistro with Afternoon Tea a particular favorite. Champagne Happy Hour is every Friday at 5pm and the bar is packed with a great, upmarket local crowd. The staff make the place and nothing is too much trouble. ... more   less
