We booked two nights in this hotel through Mr & Mrs Smith to celebrate my Husbands special birthday! I had contacted the hotel direct to enquire whether they could help arrange a cake, balloons etc., I got a quick reply, suggesting I contact a couple of suppliers direct so I could let them know exactly what I wanted. I was a little disappointed when we arrived at the hotel, there was no mention of a happy birthday for him or anything in the room like a birthday message. After being shown to our room (12), it was noticeable that the room was looking a little tired with marks on the wall, part of the wood on the window sill had crumbled away, on the bedside table, the paint hard worn from cups being placed on them and the carpet had a hole/mark on it. The cleanliness of the sink in the bathroom was not great. It had some stains on it and I wiped some of it away with a tissue. There were a couple of hairs on the floor. The port and biscuits were a nice touch and the bed very comfy but I did not feel the quality of the room deserved a nightly room price of £200 per night. Our friends were staying at a Q hotel and their room was immaculate and cheaper than our rate. The food in the restaurant and ambience were very good. The staff were friendly and you could see they worked hard and, long hours. The breakfast was excellent and location of the hotel was very good. Just little things spoilt the wow factor.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- This recently refurbished boutique hotel is housed in a 400 year old listed building in the heart of Stratford upon Avon. Located opposite Shakespeare's school, among the ancient half-timbered buildings the town is famous for and only 2 minute's walk to the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. This is THE place for a pre-theatre supper - local pianists play at 5.30pm daily and the atmosphere is great. The 12 funky en-suite bedrooms vary in size, cost and view. Try for a room at the front of the building for the perfect view. Great food is served all day, through till 10pm in this buzzy neighbourhood bistro with Afternoon Tea a particular favorite. Champagne Happy Hour is every Friday at 5pm and the bar is packed with a great, upmarket local crowd. The staff make the place and nothing is too much trouble. ... more less
