“Menzies Stratford Upon Avon”
Reviewed 25 March 2014

Beautiful location, hotel and gardens. However, the room (which was nice but standard 3/4 star room) certainly isn't worth £170 a night in my opinion. We stayed for a wedding and they handled the wedding really well and the wedding meal was lovely. However, they closed the residents bar early and the breakfast the following morning was one of the worse I've had.

Room Tip: Away from the function room

Indeed the Welcombe is in a beautiful location , it is a stunning hotel and has fantastic views and superb facilities hence it may be slightly more expensive than some hotels - it isn't just the bedroom that may dictate the price.
However I do really apologise for the bar closing early and the poor breakfast - this is very disappointing and I have discussed this with my team.
I am so glad that you enjoyed the wedding
All the best

The grounds of this hotel were simply stunning, it was wonderful to be able to take walks and get such a brilliant view from our room. As the weather at the end of July was scorching hot and very humid, the air conditioning in the room was perfect, it worked brilliantly and was much needed!
The food and drink was excellent and staff were attentive and polite.
The spa facilities were great, if people are looking for a relaxing short break I would definitely recommend staying at the hotel and getting a treatment or two.
The only negative I would say is the price, it is very expensive compared with other hotels in the area.
Overall it was an excellent stay and we would definitely stay again.

We stayed on a special deal and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The room was large and comfortable with windows on two sides showing different aspects of the garden and golf course beyond. The pool and surrounding saunas were lovely although despite notices to the contrary people were reserving loungers and heated beds with towels for long periods of time. We ate in the restaurant from the a la carte menu but were disappointed with the choice as the online sample menu shows a choice of 8 starter, mains and desserts which looked lovely whereas in realty the choice was only 4 starters etc. Breakfast was buffet style with no a la carte offered as an alternative which was a shame as we later discovered there was a menu available at an extra cost which we would have considered. Staff were all very helpful. Lack of a lift to our floor was inconvenient.

A short stay in this lovely old building was very nice. The room we had was a bit of a walk from the Main Hotel but was very comfortable. We eat in the restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed our meals including a hearty breakfast. The main lounge was very comfortable with a lovely log fire to sit in front of in the evening and just relax. If we visit Stratford upon Avon again I think this is where we will stay. The spa was very nice with a surprise small outdoor pool and a good size indoor pool. I imagine avid golfers would really enjoy a stay here as the grounds are imaculate

5 mins drive into Stratford upon Avon makes it a perfect get away.

The hotel has character. As soon as you arrive the driveway warns you to be careful of squirrels crossing.

The main hotel has a grand traditional style. The decor is not modern but not offensive either. It's clean, rooms re a good size. Staff are v friendly.
Dinner included in the dinner bed and breakfast package was gorgeous, really nice evening.

The spa itself it v modern and much better than the web photos allow. Really nice pool and spa facilities.

Would definitely return again!

This a beautiful hotel in superb grounds. The spa is lovely to.myself & my husband treated ourselves to a 2 night spa break & boy did we feel well treated & well rested. The weather was just gorgeous for March so to sit outside & admire the views was an added bonus. As all hotels bar prices are expensive but think we all expect that now. We will most definitely be returning in the near future.

Room Tip: If possible book a room that looks over the gardens & golf course! They have weddings on in this...

Thank you for your very kind review and I am so glad you were able to enjoy the glorious weather last weekend - our bar prices are in line with most 4 star hotels but I'm sure you'll agree it's worth paying that little bit more if only for the view from the terrace !
Sorry about the heating we did get caught out with the warmth of the sunshine this weekend
Kind regards
Greg

We stayed 2 nights at this beautiful hotel for a wedding. The actual building and grounds were magnificent .The food is lovely. The staff were attentive and discrete. Our room was very comfortable. The wedding was held in a pretty room and of course there is a a superb back drop for the wedding photos.. We went to bed before the evening disco had finished and were a bit worried we would hear the noise but we never heard a thing.
Our only complaint was the heat. The whole hotel was too warm .I would hate their heating bill!
