“Great Hotel- For A Conference”
Reviewed 6 June 2010

We stayed here along with 40 others for a professional exams revision weekend.

Great hotel, nice rooms, golf course and spa. Food in restaurant very good.

Manager Mr Fehler very helpful and was in on a Saturday to make sure we were being looked after. We were.

Great location for a weekend break (without the studying) and would return with my wife like a shot.

Stratford just down the raod.

Stayed April 2010, travelled on business

My partner & I booked this hotel for our 6th anniversary, it looked beautiful online!
As we drove up to the hotel we were amazed how lovely the grounds were.
Unfortunately, we did not receive a friendly welcome from the reception staff. We were not pointed in the correct direction to our room so we walked around aimlessly with heavy bags trying to find our rooms.
We were also told that the restaurant was fully booked (at 2pm when we checked in) so we had to walk around stratford trying to guess which place we would like to eat in, as we had never visited before. I recommend the Malaysian down sheep street, made our evening.

The room we stayed in (which was expensive) was dirty, the sink blocked up as soon as you turned the tap on, taped up carpet areas - Overall a big let down inside the hotel!!

The Spa was amazing and thank goodness for this as it was the only area in the hotel that felt modern, clean and relaxing. I will not return to this hotel or recommend it.

I am truely sorry you were dissappointed with your bedroom - thank you for your very constructive critisism.
We are refurbishing a number of bedrooms this year but clearly do not want ' modernise ' and perhaps loose some of the character of this lovely building.
So glad you enjoyed the Spa

Kind regards

We have now stayed at this hotel twice since February. Last weekend we took our 5 year old son and the hotel were very accommodating, even offering to open the restaurant early for our son if he needed to eat earlier than 7pm. The food was very good quality, the grounds are beautiful, the leisure facilities are superb and the rooms in the main building where we stayed were very spacious and decorated to a very high standard. The service is excellent and everyone went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. We will certainly be returning to such a lovely hotel.

Stayed for two nights for a golfing week-end. Hotel location is excellent as is the golf course. Food was good and the service overall first class, as was the Spa. The only let down was the rooms. The ones we were in were a little tired and really needed updating. We believe, however that some of the rooms have been modernised so go for those.

We have just been in Menzies Welcome Hotel and we can only say to the manager and staff of the hotel: Thank you very very much for making our stay such an enjoyable one. We walked in the beautiful gardens, we use the remarkable spa facilities and walked along the river to Stratford-Upon-Avon etc. The food and service were next to nothing ... brilliant allround. I will most definitely recommend your hotel to all friends, family and neighbours and I'll also top graded in the trip advisor website. The traditional look and internal of the hotel is lovely ... apart from some cosmetic improvements at the windows/sills, new bulbs, paint, certains etc we think the hotel is more than worth to visit again and we will!
Thank you again
All the best
Sam & Col

We had a fantastic weekend at this hotel and more importantly, so did my mother and father, whom we were treating. We stayed in a couple of the four poster rooms, which were not inexpensive but were well worth it for a special occasion. The rooms were spotlessly clean, very warm and very spacious. On this occasion the hotel was busy but with relatively quiet guests and we slept very well. (Not sure how it would be if there was a noisy wedding reception.)

The meals in the evening were absolutely delicious and very nicely presented - top marks to the chef and other kitchen staff. Along with faultless service, our waiter blended humour and amusing flattery in just the right measure to entertain and please my mother, which made her feel special. Breakfast was great, too, with a huge choice.

The gym/spa is very well appointed and I'd particularly recommend a few minutes in the laconium to completely chill out (though it's pleasantly warm) at the end of a session.

If you go as part of a larger party, it's as well to be aware that you may be directed to a side part of the restaurant, which can obviously also be a function room. When I asked why we were in the separate room I was told that twos and threes are usually in the main room. I would have preferred to be in the main restaurant rather than in the separate section, and be at the restaurant quality tables and chairs rather than on the function room style chairs. However, my mother liked the separate room because it was quiter. So, like most reviews, it depends on your point of view!

We found all the staff attentive and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. In terms of being a treat for my mother, the hotel quality and staff made it a resounding success. Also, we would definitely like to go to this hotel in the future as a couple for a romantic/relaxing getaway.

My husband and I took advantage of a Special Offer and had two nights here. The hotel with spa and golf club are set in 157 acres of beautiful scenery. We were on an all inclusive Bed Breakfast and Dinner through TravelZoo. The staff and hotel are a delight and the food in the restaurant was really enjoyable and of excellent quality. We were presented with a total bill for our meals which was disconcerting and had to ask about our 'deal' which was slightly uncomfortable but was handled very well by a member of staf who said it was one of the most asked questions! We had a standard room which was of a good size and traditional decor with a view across the grounds to the house. The bathroom was the only let down and was of inferior quality, looking tired and dated. If you're celebrating I would imagine that it's worth upgrading from a standard room. The weather wasn't on our side so we drove into Stratford to see the Shakespeare attractions. It was great to return to a massive roaring fire in one of the reception rooms. The Spa facilities were very nice and modern and use was all inclusive. I would like to have taken advantage of the daily classes but I had a cold and decided against aqua aerobics. There were aerobic classes available and circuits in the gym. I tried to book a facial but the treatment rooms were fully booked although they did telephone me with a cancellation which unfortunately wasn't convenient for me (I was due to be in Shakespeare's house at that time!) . It would be advisable to ask well in advance of your visit what is available for both the spa and treatments. We enjoyed our stay here immensely - it felt special.
