“A good place for a short break.”
Reviewed 12 January 2012

We have stayed at this hotel three years in a row. We are a group of two moms and three daughters and we have enjoyed our stay every time. The service this time was the best so far, the reception stAff and spa staff were excellent. The rooms are clean and modern. The bathrooms are of a high standard. Our room this year were a little smaller than last but for one night they were ok, even if one did have a slightly odd aroma.
Definitely treat yourself to the spa. The relaxation room is heaven and the therapist very good. My face felt wonderful for ages after the facial and the Indian head massage really reduced tension in my shoulders.
The dining room looks dead in the evening- we have always eaten out-but the breakfast is extensive. My only complaint is that it is about 15pounds per person extra.
The location is very convenient for walking into Stratford

We stayed at Alveston Manor for a 3 night Christmas break, arriving on Friday 23rd. Although we arrived at 1.45pm, we were told that our room would be ready shortly (at 2pm), however as it turned out, our room wasn’t ready until 2.45pm. No mention of a complementary drink was made whilst we waited – which was a shame.

However, once we got to our room, it was worth waiting for. We had booked a Feature King room in the old Coachhouse part, in the eves of the building with oak beams and a lot of character and plenty of space. The huge bed was very comfy and the bathroom clean and warm, with a lovely hot shower. It also had a fridge, so we kept some soft drinks and nibbles in there. (and a bottle of M&S Cava we’d taken with us). The bar staff happily lent us 2 champagne glasses without fuss.

Also they would bring fresh milk to your room for tea/coffee, which was a nice touch. They put the filtered water in refillable fancy branded bottles, which is why they charge for them if removed. No need to take them really, unless you want to pay for a souvenir!

During our stay we used the pool facilities twice, and it was fabulous….just the right temperature, and at the times we chose to go, really quiet too (just us at one point). You get towels, lockers and the showers have complementary shampoo/gel. Hairdryers/tissues/moisturiser in the ladies! The gym looked fairly well equipped, but we didn’t use it. We went for lots of walks instead.

Breakfasts were amazing!!! Lots to choose from. The first morning was waiter service for full English, but the next two mornings (as they were then full) were hot buffet, but that didn’t effect the quality of the food offered. Usual cereals and continental stuff too. We were usually in fairly early (8ish) and so it was still quite quiet.

We ate out for our other main meals, but we had pre-booked Christmas Day lunch at the Hotel. The room was decorated beautifully and the food was delicious…even included a bottle of house wine per couple as part of the package.

When we checked out there were no nasty surprises on the bill (even the car parking was free) and we hadn’t been charged for paying (in advance) by credit card.

My husband heard that the hotel will be undergoing renovations in the near future, so hopefully all the tired bits will be given a lift (carpets etc).

All in all, we had a lovely stay and would recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms 71 and 72 are large with oak beams. they are mirror images of each other and i cant remember...

We stayed at Alveston Manor 20 years ago when the hotel was in the ownership of the Forte family. We've revisited the hotel occasionally since & can sadly see it deteriorating more each time. It is clearly evident the Macdonald Group are using the old fashioned good name to attract customers & charge as much as they can without doing anything to refurbish the rooms. The "Traveller pictures" are a true representation of the cleanliness we saw in our room & throughout the hotel, I wish I'd seen them before I booked.
On all 3 mornings of our stay my Full English Breakfast was superb & hot. For the 3rd evening meal it was evident Head Chef had returned, as the meal was noticeably better than the previous 2 evenings.
This hotel deserves to be family owned & run, not controlled by accountants at head office ! !
It was obvious a great amount had been spent producing a glossy brochure entitled " Room 15 Sustainability initiative " which was in our room & I guess in every other room. It was difficult to know whether to laugh or cry when reading the contents in conjunction with seeing the heating radiator under the window was pumping out heat behind a full length, thick curtain which completely insulated the heating system from the room but allowed the heat to escape through ill fitting single glazed windows.

Tired Hotel getting by on historical building. When you book Dinner Bed and Breakfast you do expect the restaurant to be able to accommodate/seat you. If they knew they were going to be busy a note on the confirmation to pre-book dinner would have served. Arrived 7pm after 3 hour drive. Receptionist suggested calling at restaurant on way to room to book table for dinner. Met by restaurant personnel who wasn't able to tell us whether table available but was able to boast that they had recently catered for a party of over 100 despite being an 80 seat restaurant. When senior staff member arrived said no tables available at 7.30 fully booked might be able to fit us in close to 10pm.
Plenty of good restaurants available in Stratford Upon Avon but hadn't anticipated needing to go out again.
Room comfortable enough albeit furnishings tired. Breakfast was cooked to order and despite not being very hot was okay.

Room Tip: If like us you need another local restaurant, Carluccios Italian Restaurant just over the river in S...

The hotel has a very good location and very easy to walk into stratford and the public rooms of the hotel have great charm but the hotel in my view has lacked investment and it shows. Our room was tired with stained linen, the bed was one of the worst I have ever experienced in a hotel, the window could not be closed and I was woken twice in the night by strange sounds from the plumbing let alone human hair on towels in bathroom. I had stayed at the hotel 12 years earlier and the rooms seemed not to have had a penny spent on them since then. The carpets in the public areas are worn and a general sense of decay sits in some parts of the hotel and one gets a sense of the owners seeking to spend as little as possible in it upkeep. The hotel would benefit from new owners who could invest in the hotel. Also watch out in keeping with this sense of focus on penny pinching the hotel charges to us a credit card, this was not highlighted to me when I booked the hotel. I plan to avoid this hotel and hotel group in the future there are better options in Stratford.

What a lovely hotel and wonderful grounds, the rooms are lovely, well the one we had was great.
Some of the carpets are a bit worn, but this goes with the character of the hotel.
The hotel looked magnificent as you drive into the carpark.

The reception staff was very polite and extremely helpful, we had dinner in the restaurant which was just wonderful and we had a fantastic waitress her name was Hannah she had only been there 5 weeks but so professional.

I would recommend this hotel

Room Tip: Try and get a room overlooking the garden

Myself and 3 others stayed here on the 9th & 10th Dec. Its a clean warm hotel with good facilities.
However I would avoid coming here at Christmas time in future. Both nights we returned to the hotel post 11:30 (when bars had closed in Stratford) to enjoy chat and late night drinks.
Sadly all the bar and lounge areas were overrun by people from private xmas parties in the function room. Some were hotel guests, some were not. There is no provision for a bar for non party goers and thus ourselves and others were left with no alternative. After 2 hrs of drunken "12 Days of Christmas" being sung at full voice by 20 odd inebriated people it was time to quit. Thank god our rooms werent above the bar!

Room Tip: Four Poster rooms are Executive suites only. Room nos above 30 are quite far from the reception and...
