Excellent visit with Mr Macdonald to see our Rachel and Bill's place.
Hotel very near the centre and the RSC theatre just across the river.
Great bar with many real ales and good restaurant at The Bear, also Macdonalds just across the road.
The town has many good shops M and S included and not far from The Bullring in Birmingham a huge mall where you can shop till you drop.
Very pretty 3 star site on the river near the RSC, boat trips, riverside pubs and parks with good walks by the river.
The hotel is big and can get busy but we have always enjoyed our visits and the breakfast is huge which the aircrew like.

Room Tip: we like rooms at the back near the pool quieter away from the busy area.

Staff very friendly. Booking problems when trying to book spa package, in the end went through booking.com. Just as well room and breakfast cheaper that way.

No charge for car park for residents.

Paid £103 a night for b&b for two of us.

Leisure facilities ok, clean but staff a bit scary and not that helpful. (Maybe just me)

Breakfast wonderful, service great, selection on cold buffet good, excellent cooked breakfast.
Dinning room old and worn. Staff excellent.

Room nice, had one of the bigger rooms. Nothing special. Clean. Towel rail didn't work and was not repaired when I complained, so bathroom cold.

Quiet room, near leisure facilities, a long walk to reception/resturant.

Hotel in need of paint/carpet repair and clean.

Lovely setting. Bar, resturant and lounge areas, old and full of character.

Grounds not well lit at night, lights missing.

Daily menu not available till after 3pm. Annoying when trying to decide what to do.

Bar expensive, but not a problem as other cheaper bars close by.

Donation on bill which was not pointed out or explained, only a pound, will have to look up what it was for.

Room Tip: Ask to see room before accepting.

I understand Stratford is not the best place to go for value for money, but to all travellers Id advise doing everything possible to get into a b&b or any other hotel than this one.

For £200 you get what is sub-standard motel accommodation and NO breakfast. Apparently rooms can be as "cheap" as 150, which is still way over-priced. Room was noisy, tired, old, slightly smelly, very stuffy (and badly ventilated), uncomfortable bed, and more.

The front facade looks gorgeous but this is not what the hotel is like - accommodation is in a modern extension. By modem I mean 1970s and not upgraded since.

I hate to write such a negative review but this really was among the worst experiences of my travelling life and - given the beauty and pleasures Stratford has to offer - a double shame.

We stayed one night at Macdonald Alveston in order the watch an RSC production. While the location is convenient, overall this hotel is NOT up to normal luxury standards which is what I would expect when paying £200 / night. The "amenities" are bare and the rooms are small and outdated. Everything looked (and I suspect was) old: the phone, the sheets, the plumbing, the mattress. The walls are paper thin and we had a lovely view of the parking lot (and the people parking their cars had lovely views of us).

We were charged £200 for this experience and breakfast was not included.

I would suggest NOT paying more than £60. That is the worth of this place.

Had room in the main hotel facing terrace and very pretty and well cared for gardens - was very pleased with contemporary decoration and cleanliness of the room. Everything was spotless and very well maintained - and Iam annoyingly picky!! Bathroom was fully equipped with plenty of huge fluffy towels and good quality bathrobes. The amenities were good quality which was helpful as had forgotten shampoo etc. good quality hairdryer also provided (not the usual wired to the the wall offering) tea and coffee making facilities were very good and plentiful and a tray with glasses and a bottle of water was also provided. Rooms are not huge but you don't really expect that in period property anyway and were perfectly adequate with good hanging and drawer space. We arrived very early and the reception were most helpful and checked with housekeeping to see if we could check in early. We weren't able to but we did not expect to anyway, but hotel happy to store our bags in room while.we headed off for the day. Hotel is just over the bridge from main centre and very easy and pretty walk to all the bars and restaurants - we didn't have any problem walking back to hotel after an evening in town - it was a very pleasant 3 minute stroll. Breakfast choices were very good with usual buffet and also selection of hot options from menu. Staff were attentive but not overbearing. Hotel is characterful in very pretty grounds and is perfect location if you want to explore the shops, bars and restaurants in town. Would definitely go back and perhaps make use of the excellent spa facilities and gym which was also very well equipped. My only gripe would be the £3 charge on checkout for payment by credit card. Surely this could have been absorbed into the price? - whilst we were checking out another couple were complaining about this as well. But that is a very minor point in what was a lovely stay and did not detract from the overall experience. Definitely one to bear in mind if you want to be close to everything the town has to offer.

Room Tip: I would suggest asking for a room in the main house. The annexe from the outside looked like a mote...

The Alveston Manor is right in the heart of Stratford so all the local attractions, pubs and restaurants are within a few minutes walk.
The hotel is impressive right from the moment you enter with real olde worlde charm. My room was spacious clean and comfortable with a great view towards the river.
Food is good, but pricey with helpful staff. I would have given full marks for service but the receptionist was a little too aloof on checkout and could barely even look at me! Not necessary, just because its a high class hotel does not mean you can't be friendly!
Overall though, highly recommended!

Enjoyed our stay after problems were solved courteously and professionally.
These related to a restaurant reservation problem and sloppy housekeeping.
We have stayed at this hotel many times previously and will do so again.
