We stayed in this hotel as part of our honeymoon between the 30th of October and 1st of November due to the spa facilities and location. My wife and I both enjoyed two treatments in the spa and found the staff to be both friendly and treatments offered to be of the highest standards. In addition to this the hotel is very conveniently located within walking distance of the town centre and local attractions with the RSC theatre and Shakespeare's house within easy walking distance. In addition to this the main building of the hotel is beautiful, filled with character and period features.
Unfortunately this is where the positives for our stay ended. The customer service provided by the staff was appalling. During the first night we had dinner within the hotel restaurant. Half of the things on the menu, which is allegedly created each day based on available produce, weren't available at all. This resulted in us ordering things on four separate occasions only to be told that they weren't available. In addition to this when we expressed disappointment that we had to change our order several times the waiters, rather than being apologetic, were instead confrontational, making us feel that we were being completely unreasonable. The service and food were so poor that despite this being included in the package we booked we ate out in town the second evening.
In addition on the second evening we attended the bar for a coffee only to find that no staff members were present. We had to wait for over 10 minutes until any staff attended and faced a struggle to pay having to request the bill on multiple occasions.
Our room was unfortunately overlooking the road which meant that it was very noisy and made our sleep fitful and hadn't been properly cleaned prior to our arrival. Some of the facilities could do with updating, in particular the bathroom.
Overall this hotel is in a superb location and has an outstanding spa. However, the customer service is appalling and this hotel does not represent value for money. I certainly would not recommend staying in this hotel
