Another enjoyable stay! The staff very relaxed and helpful. Food excellent. As someone who has a wheat intolerance I was really impressed how accommodating they were both at dinner and at breakfast. The location is very good as you can leave the car and just walk round Stratford and explore such a lovely part of the country.

Great location, ideally positioned for the RSC, the river avon & SUA town centre, well tended grounds/gardens & great pool & spa. However, the general decor & state of repair throughout the entire hotel is worn & tired & most definitely in urgent need of a refurbishment. That said, the bar is currently close under going a facelift/refurb, so perhaps this is the start of things to come. The bedrooms were very clean, however, they were out dated in style & it's very clear the hotel is being run in to the ground prior to any upgrade being executed & such state of disrepair extended to the corridors too. The highlight of our one night stay had to be dining in the restaurant; firstly the service provided by Ali was absolutely exemplary & outstanding! He was personable, attentive, informative, friendly & genuinely showed a real passion & enthusiasm for his role & really went the extra mile to ensure we were happy & had everything we needed. In addition, Miles & Robert also extended great service to as we dined & they too seemed as dedicated & as focused as Ali in terms of delivering slick, professional service. Secondly, the quality of the food was superb; this really was fine dining at it's best & the Chef (Paul), absolutely knocked the ball out of the park in terms of taste & presentation. Not only were we pleasantly surprised but also really very shocked as the culinary standards were first class which we just hadn't anticipated & I think this was because of the general decor throughout the hotel. This restaurant, (despite the worn decor) was a real treat & really who'd have known..... It really was very unexpected. The menu selection which we sampled was perfectly cooked & utterly delicious & soufflé was just to die for. Our only gripe would be to change the 1970's-esque background music; we felt like we were on the set of soap-opera "crossroads!" I loved the food & service that much I'd return to the hotel just to dine, so thank you Ali, Miles, Robert & Paul, you each individually made our dining experience so enjoyable & memorable & you each deserve recognition & commendation. However, breakfast at the hotel was another story entirely! An under-staffed dining room created a very chaotic, disorganised & stressed environment which was not enjoyable at all & the two Ladies serving; one of whom was Valentina, were evidently under great pressure, which clearly affected their performance, resulting in a very below average service, littered with errors such as mixing cooked breakfast orders up & taking forever to attend to us. The breakfast service was extremely disappointing & not enjoyable at all, particularly as the poor service made us feel like an inconvenience to the waiting Staff. Again, the background music was identical to the previous evening & equally as irritating! Please change this ASAP!

Dear Guest
Thank you very much for taking the time to post your comments. I am delighted that you had such a first class experience in our restaurant at dinner and thank you for such positive comments about the food and service, and members of the team; I will ensure that they are made aware of your feedback.
My apologies for any shortfall in service standards at breakfast, and I have discussed this with the Restaurant Manager.
Whilst I appreciate that the hotel is a little tired in some areas, it is well maintained and clean. We are committed to standards and quality and, and an extensive long term programme is in place for improvements, commencing on the 2nd January with the refurbishment of the public areas extending through the corridor areas.
I hope that we can welcome you back to the hotel in the future. Sam Aziz, General Manager..

We booked a two night stay for a birthday break at Stratford and was delighted with everything the Alveston Manor had to offer. We were greeted in a friendly, welcoming manner, parked our car and enjoyed a couple of hours shopping before we returned to book in. Car parking was ample and only £5.00 for the duration of the stay. Although our room was a good walk from reception, in the newer part of the hotel, it was close to the gym and swimming pool which we used and found we could park close to the gym entrance - in fact we will request a similar room when we return. We booked an early pre-theatre meal in the restuarant and the three courses were all delightful and service prompt and friendly. The breakfasts too were excellent, freshly cooked with plenty of toast and coffee. All the staff were attentive, efficient and friendly. We often use Macdonald Hotels and we will certainly be staying at this one again.

Took my boyfriend here for a weekend away. Great Hotel - lovely surroundings. Hotel staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Stayed in the new part of the hotel. Hotel room was lovely and very traditional. Wouldn't hesitate in staying at this property again :-)

Thank you

We stayed for a weekend recently and found the hotel very inviting but upon arrival noted that it is now tatty, worn and in need of major refurbishment. The canopy over the entrance was rotten and could be a hazard. The old part of the hotel is very charming and full of character but the 1970's extensions are now well past their sell by date. The corridor leading to them smells dank and damp. There are no lifts and too many small flights of stairs. There was no offer of assistance with bags. On the upside our room was very spacious and included a small sofa and table, the bathroom was good and the food in the restaurant was quite excellent. The walls were rather thin and our neighbours insisted on banging the wardrobe door at regular intervals. Disappointing for a MacDonald Hotel you need to get the balance right.

Room Tip: Not in the extensions but most rooms are there

We stayed here in September 2013. I have know this hotel since the 1970's and in those days it was somewhere to be recommended. Now its tired, tatty and the 1970's extensions need pulling down and replacing. Stairs all over the place and no lifts. Worn carpets, with holes on stairs. The historic part at the front is fine - one expects that to be maintained, as far we could tell that was the case.
Food - tiny and artistic, not sustaining. Quality good for what there was of it. On the final evening two of the four group had one choice from the dessert menu - the following day both of us had upset stomachs. A formal complaint was made to the management.
Room was clean AND lighting ok. One drawback with the bedroom - smokers would come out of the spa below - and smoke drifted into our room.
