“Would never stay there again!”
Reviewed 5 December 2013

1) Heating/air con - could not get it right, even when showing +30 C it was freezing
2) Breakfast - cold pastries, 20min wait for 2 toasts, chasing for tea and coffee
3) Lunch - food was not refilled unless asked, teas & coffees not offered until asked. You need to actually go and find someone to help you
4) Dinner - Did not see anyone coming to take drinks order, portion sizes different and inconsistent, lamb overcooked. Cheese board was just dumped by a waiter at the end of the table and everyone had to pass it around.
5) Check -out. Painful and slow

We were a group of 16 and the feedback was consistent across the team. We did not feel welcomed and looked after.I would not recommend any of my friend or colleagues to stay here.

Dear Kristine
Thank you for posting your comments. I personally investigated the issues and discussed with you at length and the operations team were in contact with the Trainer on the day. The hotel is just the other side of the bridge and about 5 minutes walk to the Theatre, lots of the attractions and restaurants and pubs. The room was fine and plenty of car parking (£5 per stay). The meal in the restaurant on Saturday night was good . Cheapest bottle of wine was £22 which was pleasant but very ordinary - in most places for that quality of wine you would be paying £15/16 Breakfast was OK but a bit mean - fried bread was a quarter of a slice of bread - small spoons or tongs for the help yourself buffet - so you can't take too much- butter came in a pretty silver dish with ONE pat of butter on a table of four.

However the staff were exceptional - helpful, smiling and very welcoming throughout the hotel.

Would I stay there again - debatable. Everything was fine but I felt they were charging 5 star prices for a 4 star establishment.

Room Tip: Because its such a rambling hotel you need to see your room before you take your luggage up. The co...

Having booked this hotel for a party of 12 Adults for a christmmas weekend away back in (March 2013!!! )i I was a little worried to read all the negative feed back just before we came last weekend !!! yes there are a few things, yes it could do with a bit of paint here and there and some new carpets, and maybe remove 2 Laundry stock carts from the hallway that had sat there for 2 days!!! even if they had a cover over them and put neatly in the corner it would not look like they had been dumped there !!!! and there was a large hole in the canopy over the main recepion doors !!!but other then that all was well, Breakfast was very good , staff good , and yes i would go back when it has been upgraded.

Went with a party of 12.
Rooms comfortable and very warm for November. (wife was very pleased)
Very convenient for all the attractions.
Breakfast was excellent.
Could not fault it.
Book via an online agent, as direct it was expensive.

Room Tip: They all seemed OK!

Alveaton Manor hotelis very close to the centre of Stratford and in easy walking distance from the town. Food is very good beds a little hard and rooms adequate. The fee for the car park £5.00 per
Stay is a bit if a cheek considering the overnight room rates. Overall the hotel is good clean but the spead of service a little slow. Would possibly stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for a garden view as car parking is closer to rooms than some others.

We have just returned from a 2 night weekend stay at this hotel (17/18th Nov) & from the beginning it was a nightmare! WE WERE IN 3 DIFFERENT ROOMS IN 24 HOURS! We have a 4 month old baby and it was our first time away with him so we were looking forward to a nice weekend break and chill out a bit. However this was not meant to be at this hotel! When My husband booked the room he rang the hotel to explain we had a little baby & would need a quiet room we thought a suite would be spacious and suitable. However, the room (room 5) was up & down numerous small narrow & very awkward stair ways, a fair way from reception, making it really hard for a pram & all the other bits up. We were disappointed to start with as the room wasn't very big and a bit shabby. We had to leave the pram at the reception. We paid for db&b. We ate in the restaurant at 6pm & the food was not what we were expecting - the starter we both had was king prawn & avocado salad which consisted of 4 rubbery prawns, the kind that come in plastic containers from supermarkets already cooked for about £2, & few pieces of avocado & a bit of sauce & that was it. The bread we had with our meal at extra cost was stale.
We were then woken at around midnight by people partying in the bar directly below our room, of course this was the ideal room for a couple with a baby!! - why hadn't the staff booking us in realized this?? There was a conference on & the guests had moved from the dining room to the bar. Surely The day staff would have know our room was noisy? Anyway After half an hour I called reception who said it was a 24 hour bar & could potential go on all night!!! It was so loud in this room we wouldn't have been able to sleep at all! After half an hour reception said we could change rooms ( initially they said they were full and we might have to move to another hotel) and We had to move rooms at 1:30 am with a 4 month old baby, waking him up, move a fair bit of our stuff including a travel cot to this other room which was a fair walk away! The next morning we collected the rest of our belonging from room no 1 to take to room no 2 & got everything out & set up. However, when we went to reception to complain we were offered a £40 refund (difference in price between the suite & standard room, although the standard was better then the suite!) & 1/2 bottle of champs. I was angry as this didn't seem enough compensation for the messing about, & the manager on duty said all she was authorized to offer us was £50 & a full bottle of champs! Hmmm!! AND THEN WE WERE TOLD WE HAD TO MOVE ROOMS FOR A 3RD TIME!! I just couldn't believe it! This was apparently because there was painting going on in this room later on !? It was Sunday. Hmm. We had no choice as how could we stay in a room that was going to be painted! The staff moved all our stuff to another 'suite'. I was really really cross! I didn't want a bunch of strangers handling our very personal effects for a start! Anyway we were determined to have a nice day despite all of this! When we returned everything was moved to this new suite, With a card & champs saying how sorry they were n that they hoped we enjoyed the rest of our stay. We had to sort all of our things out for a third time again, in room no 3, wasting time when we hoping to relax. I hated the fact that other people had moved our things. We were really upset by all this & things that wouldn't have normally bothered us, did. For example, one of the male waiters who I will not name, was too familiar & personal. Our 4 month baby that weekend had just got glasses after being diagnosed with very short sight. We were upset obviously. A male waiter in the restaurant commented on baby's glasses asking us if he was wearing them for a joke or for fun!? & the next evening he commented again, saying he thought he was just wearing them for a day!? He was just too personal & rude.

We have written to the McDonald company to complain but to date have not received a reply. We do feel we should have been offered a refund of our first nights accommodation. We just wanted to have a nice stress free weekend with our baby for the first time & instead because of the Hotel's attitude it was stressful from the very beginning , I wish I'd stayed home or gone to a Premier Inn! We will never stay at a Macdonald hotel again.

Another enjoyable stay! The staff very relaxed and helpful. Food excellent. As someone who has a wheat intolerance I was really impressed how accommodating they were both at dinner and at breakfast. The location is very good as you can leave the car and just walk round Stratford and explore such a lovely part of the country.
