A lovely stay. Staff were really friendly, food was good (maybe a bit pricey as was the wine), room was clean, adequate and was serviced daily, location is excellent- only a 5 minute walk into centre. The spa and pool was excellent. All very happy with the stay. Would definitely go again.

I visited the hotel on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis and had a great time. The hotel is an old manor type house less than 5 minutes walk from the town.
Some communal areas are looking a little tired but our room was modern, clean and spacious. We slept very well in the large comfortable bed. The staff were all helpful and attentive although we called on them very little.
We used the pool but were disappointed not to be able to have any treatments in the spa due to it being fully booked. So book before you go to avoid disappointment.
We were very impressed with the restaurant which we had both an evening meal and breakfast in. Service was fantastic and we enjoyed the meal.
I would visit again.

The location of the hotel is fine, walking distance to main poits of interest in Stratford The beds are extremely comfortable, fantastic. Other then that we thought decoration was too oldfashioned and not really tastefull oldfashioned, but then again everybody has his own taste. We had some laughters with "fawlty towers" experiences, such as the firealarm testing and a a mouse in the bar. Other than that is is a reasonable hotel for a reasonable price.

I visited Alston Manor 25 years ago for a conference with work and always meant to come back because it was a perfect hotel. Well last night we came for the Theatre so I booked us in with very high hopes.
The Good
The setting and grounds are brilliant and in excellent condition. Booking in at reception was efficient and friendly, and in fact the reception staff were always great. The room was nice, in the block at the back of the hotel a reasonable 5' double bed and a nice bathroom with both bath and shower. So it all started very well with good service, a pleasant room and lovely grounds.
The Bad
I usually book breakfast at a hotel when staying there and so I booked it here. At £15 a head it is pretty expensive but I anticipated that this reflected in the quality. How wrong can you be? We were taken to our table and seated, coffee and tea ordered and the continental buffet pointed out, adding that a waitress would be with us shortly to take our cooked breakfast. The continental was a nice selection and we got our fruit and juice and ate them , eventually 15 minutes after we had finished the fruit and juice I attracted the managers attention and asked when our order was going to be taken and also requested the whereabouts of our tea and coffee, this resulted in a waitress taking the cooked order from a couple who had just sat down and if I hadn't made eye contact I suspect she would have continued to ignore us (she had aldready had a quick look in the room 10 minutes before and paid us no heed). The cooked breakfast arrived in reasonable time from the taking of the order but was wrong in that mine included black pudding (not ordered) and excluded the fried bread. The young server who brought this too us sorted this out quickly and was both apologetic and lovely. The standrd of the food was well below that you should expect from a quality establishment. To put it in perspective when in the UK I often stay at Premier Inns and the worst breakfast I have ever had at one of them is twice as good in quality and content than that served by Alveston Manor, but actually comes in at just over half the price even in central London. Bottom Line if you stay at Alveston Manor avoid the resteraunt at all costs!
The Ugly
As is normal with us we went to bed fairly early and read for a while before putting our books down and going to sleep, only to be wakened several times by returning guests in the corridor. This was made worse by the fact that from 7:00 am onwards we were disturbed repeatedly by noisy guests in the corridor heading for breakfast. I know there is little a hotel can do about noisy guests but why does the noise travel so well from the doorway, for whilst these people were loud I wouldn't really class it as shouting.
However the REAL ugly occurred at 08:30 as we were in the midst of getting dressed there was a knock on our door followed by a request to enter our room, when the request was declined we got a mumbled OK I'll come back later. WHY? We were on our last day had neither booked out (due at 11:00) nor had we had breakfast. I can only assume this was a maid who had no idea which rooms had been vacated and which hadn't.

Another thing about the hotel is that they have a very nice car park in the grounds and yet charge guests £5 per stay adding to the already high price of the hotel. Being fair I can't complain about this as it is clearly laid out when you book and they need to have some car park control as the hotel is extremely handy for town so needs to have a charge for no hotel guests.

To conclude, and going back to my Premier Inn comparison, Premier Inn have a good nights sleep guarantee which I have never claimed - if Alveston Manor had one I'd have got my money back with no difficulty this morning

This place is really quite imposing when you rock up and drive round the large driveway/roundabout and park in the "valet parking" area in front of reception (I don't think they actually have valet parking but I suppose it impresses American guests). The main hotel building is what appears to be a Tudor mansion (or at least in the style of) and it has very well presented lawns gardens and decor.
The majority of the accommodation is in a L shaped two story block that adjoins the main hotel building.
There is a health club/spa franchise on site which is available for guests to use (pool/gym/sauna (not working at time of visit).
As for the bar and restaurant, except for breakfast, we didn't use it. Breakfast service was passable, usual cold buffet stuff but I noted that the hot breakfast was freshly prepared, which was nice.
Bedrooms were reasonably appointed, usual coffee/tea with Scottish shortbread biscuits (Macdonald....get it?)..Bed was massive and comfortable.
Yes definitely recommend this place as a reasonable base for visiting Stratford in terms of location (about 5 mins walk from the RSC theatres and the town centre).
To be fair we used Tesco vouchers at 4x value and the bill was £380! so it would have cost is £190 a night, Not sure we would have stayed here at full price.

Room Tip: Not in the 200s...otherwise you have a bloody long walk for breakfast! to be fair they have peripher...

Have just spent another, enjoyable 3 nights here. Can highly recommend the rooms in the Coach House, unless you are tall - very low beams.
We always like staying here as it is so convenient to everything, especially the theatres.

After reading some earlier reviews we were a little worried we may have chosen the wrong hotel as we were staying with twins just turning two. However the staff really helped where they could to make our stay restful and enjoyable and we really rated this hotel and would stay again. Grounds beautiful, pool and spa relaxing and whole hotel has atmospheric and historic ambience with wooden panelling and beams. Staff provided high chairs, heated milk, seated us away from other guests - much to everyone's relief and never made us feel we were a nuisance when requesting help.

Room Tip: Choose a room close to the restaurant and bar as it is quite a walk if mobility poor.
