“A World Class Wedding Reception”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 August 2009

We hosted a wedding reception at your MacDonald Alveston Manor Hotel on Saturday 8 August 2009. We have visitors travelling half way round the globe from as far as China, the United States, Canada and Sweden. Without exceptions, we have all enjoyed a perfect day.

The reception was planned well in advance with a dedicated hotel's Wedding & Events Co-ordinator. We have been very particular with fine details and on occasion quite demanding. Nevertheless, we are most impressed by the Co-ordinator's professionalism, patience, invaluable advices and excellent attention to details. Without her constructive input and overview, the wedding reception would not be as successful as it turned out to be.

What impressed everyone most on the day was the fact that all the staff were welcoming, courteous, professional and diligent. Everything went according to plan. The timing of the event was precise and the delivery of drinks/food including dietary requirements was timely and faultless thanks to the Toast Master and her team. The standard of service and the quality of the food exceeded everyone's expectation that one would only imagine possible from a top class restaurant. One guest commented that the main course (Rump of Scottish Lamb) was cooked to perfection!

We have all enjoyed a most memorable day in a most welcoming environment. The management team and their staff should be and deserve to be very proud of themselves for producing such a world class service.

my husband and i stayed here to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. we actually got engaged at the macdonald leeming house hotel which was an amazing hotel, of very high standard.

having read the reviews on here, i nagged my husband to ring up and make sure we were not staying in the newer part of the hotel, the travelodge style rooms!! he mentioned our special anniversary and the woman he spoke to said it wasnt guarnateed but they would put a note on the system,,i didnt expect much, especially as we were using tesco clubcard vouchers!!! on arrival, we were congratulated on our anniversary and had a room in the old part, a feature room!! check in was fine, had to wait as there was a coach party in front and there was only one guy on recpetion, but this was fine, we were in no rush and he was very very friendly to us. the room was small but adequate. it was clean and everything was ok.
breakfast was good, and we had dinner one night, which was good but the portions were too big which meant i couldnt have desert!!! location was great, we walked everywhere!

the swimming pool was good, tehre was also a sauna and steam room but no jaccuzzi, which was a great disappointment.

I had a good stay, the hotel was clean and the staff were very helpful and friendly. however as i had already stayed at leeming house, i couldnt help but compare, with leeming house being of an amazingly high standard!! but alveston manor was a nice place to stay and did the job!

We originally booked another hotel (Legacy Falcon), but were sent here instead. Breakfast wasn't included and we decided to pass since 17.50 each is more than we're willing to spend. The whole feel of the place was more fancy than we're used to, but we were surprised that there were certain amenities that our usual lower-rent hotels offer. There was a wifi T-Mobile hotspot in the lobby. For 9.99/24 hrs I could sit in the lobby? No thanks.

The room was in the back of the hotel in what I've seen described as the "motel section." Very apt description. The room was dull but clean enough. The tub and sink did not drain. When we complained about it at the desk, the front desk staff looked at each other and shrugged. I'm talking about water to mid-calf while taking a brief shower.

The hotel book offered lots, but unsure if you'd actually get it. The only information we asked for was a list of worship services as the book said they had. The smarmy front desk clerk said no, but there was a church on the map, so, find the map and go there. Thanks, we could have figured that one out on our own.

Not impressed. Not one tiny bit. It's not good enough for someone who wants cheap and clean and for someone used to luxury and/or service for a higher price would be very disappointed.

A bit put off by the close proximity to the roundabout, but very quiet hotel within walking distance to the town. Our room (in the extension at the rear of the hotel, not as nice as in the original bit) were still very clean and comfortable. Trouser press, iron and board tea coffee, flat screen TV with a decent picture! Ice bucket which was filled with just a phone call! We had our evening meal included (and breakfast) The dinner was excellent, couldnt fault it, everything tasted beautiful. Breakfast was good also. We had a couple of treatments in the Spa, very friendly girls and what I liked, they didnt push you to buy expensive products. Pool and sauna etc was fine. We stayed on a monday night and although the hotel was busy there were only 6 people in the bar! The drinks were quite dear (to be expected) but were lovely and you got a tray of nuts etc. A shame it was so quiet though.

The best thing about the hotel is it's location within Stratford. It is a 5 minute walk over the bridge into the centre of the town.
The 'front end' of the hotel is very impressive and the public rooms are decorated in a manner in keeping with a mock Elizabethan theme. The newer annex, where our room was, is clean and tidy not 4* but not 'travelodge' either.
We arrived early 1.30pm and were informed that our room wasn't ready. As we were early we said we'd get some lunch in the bar, if they would call us when the room was ready. Huge mistake, we had 2 coffees and 2 'baguette's and paid over £30. After an hour we hadn't been called so I enquired again about the room, it still wasn't ready. It was 3pm before we finally had the key.
Breakfast was good quality but didn't have a wide choice.
The pool/sauna area is a pleasant way to relax after a day sightseeing and clean and well appointed.
All things considered I wouldn't return to this hotel.

After reading all the bad reports about this hotel previously I was a bit reluctant about my booking of this hotel, but me and my partner throughly enjoyed our stay!!! We arrived early on the Thursday (as check in is from 2.00pm), the receptionist was very pleasant and directed me to the swimming pool as we had an hour to spare, I have to admit it is a bit of a trek through the hotel to the leisure facilities, but when we got there the changing rooms were spotless and the pool was fab along with the sauna/steam room.

We checked into our room approx 2.45pm, room 69 it was, executive double in the old part of the hotel. Room was clean and very nice, would defo ask for this room again. It had everything that we required, nice quiet location, bathrobes, slippers, flat screen tv with freeview and a mini-bar. The bathroom was spotless and fab power shower.

The hotel is ideally situated and literally only a 5 minute walk into the town centre. When staying at this hotel ensure you have b&b as the breakfast is too die for and plentyful. We actually had room service and this made it sooooooooo nice.

Perhaps the only downside to the hotel would be the price of the drinks but as a one-off I think that most people could live with it. Unfortunately I am unable to comment on the "travelodge" rear end of the hotel as my room was not situated there, I will however say that walking through to the swiming pool, that it is perhaps looking a bit tired and a new carpet wouldn't go a miss!!!

All that said though we really enjoyed our stay, the staff were really friendly and very helpful and the location ideal. We will definately we staying again.

My wife and I stayed for one night at this rather well furnished Macdonald Hotel as a treat and found it to be a very pleasant experience. The hotel was a mock-tudor styled venue with oak-panelling in some of the rooms. There was a labyrinth of smaller corridors branching off the main corridor before we eventually found our room which was on the ground floor. It was a reasonable sized room with a king size bed which we had seen an offer on. The room was clean and spacious with the usual complimentary tea and water supplied but with no mini-bar available and there were areas of decor that required a little bit of TLC. The bathroom was clean and well-stocked but needed a lick of paint.
I utilised the pool facilities which were very good and the pool was a good size for the hotel.
As the hotel is placed a maximum 10 minutes from the town centre, we ate in town and returned for a drink at the bar which is beautifully furnished with oak-panelled style, however a wine and beer at the bar cost over £9 which I find horrendous whether a four star or not, this is not likely to entice people to use it and a real cheek when the cost of accomodation is high.
The breakfasts are plentiful and options good and it is definitely a place I would stay at again, you just won't see me in the bar!!
