We only stayed for the one night which was a Spa break, we selected Alveston Manor as we where on our way to Devon and where really pleased with our choice. Alveston Manor was a beautiful period building which looked stunning as we drove up to the entrance. The environment Inside was welcoming, staff very friendly throughout the hotel. The room was very clean with everything we needed. The leisure facilities in a new extension where excellent and we thoroughally enjoyed our massages. The gardens superb especially when the sun shone. Wish we had stayed longer.

Quiet and relaxing yet very conveniently placed for the theatres and town centre. Lovely grounds and helpful, friendly staff. We didn't have dinner, but breakfast was good.
Facilities clean - an ideal hotel for a relaxing cultural weekend - we'd love to go back!

Staff were all ace - especially the Concierge - friendly and helpful. Good room, very quiet (No 104). Breakfast was first class - you rarely find kippers on the bone (although it was £3.50 extra for a small kipper!)

We paid with Tesco vouchers - the standard rate would be very expensive.

We would come back again

On arrival it looks impressive and full of character, inside we were greeted professionally but curtly, and told our room number. We headed for it only to find the key didn't work, and saw that a different number had been written on the card holder. We tried both and they didn't work. On explaining this at reception we had our heads bit off, and the receptionist insisted she had told us the correct number. The room was clean and pleasant, but in a modern, adjoining annex, quite some way from reception. The corridors were quite noisy late at night/early morning. On arriving at breakfast the next morning it was like a Faulty Towers scene. About 30 people were told to wait for 5-10 minutes in the corridor outside the restaurant, many having to perch on window sills. 20 minutes later we were seated, and after being offered the incorrect breakfast twice, and having to ask twice for sauces, we eventually got what we ordered. The tables adjacent were having similar problems. The staff didn't seem to understand the guests or each other. The full English breakfast consisted of 2 fatty rashers of bacon, 1 small burnt sausage, 1 egg, 1/2 a fried tomato, a tablespoon of beans, and a triangle of fried bread... all cold. The maid did a minimal job of refreshing the room, not taking the extra milk we had had to request which sat by the kettle all day, or even make the beds properly. Clean towels were just thrown haphazardly on the towel rail in the bathroom. The main problem the whole stay was communication problems due to all staff we came across being Eastern European - which I have absolutely no problem with, but we were constantly misunderstood, if understood at all. This then becomes very frustrating. And there were no smiles to be seen.

Our trip to Portugal was replaced with a fabulous stay at this town centre Mac Donald Hotel. A phone call from the airport at 7am on our flight day secured us three nights in the beautiful Stratford Upon Avon. The staff were wonderful from our arrival to departure, despite being under intense pressure from a full hotel as a consequence of the vocanic eruption. The front of house staff, restaurant staff and room staff were friendly, sympathetic and thoughtful from the moment we arrived. The cost may appear high, but the surroundings and the welcome are wonderful. go find out for yourselves and if you have a little spare cash - even those converted euros try the restaurant for an intimate and friendly service. Other spare dosh can be spent in the Spa with lots of special offers on treatements every day.
